in the piano concerto #9 and in a recital in NY ( I remember only the Schubert A minor sonata D845). In this Dvorak concerto, he receives
good support from Laszlo Somogyi in the concerto with two Dvorak orchestral fillers: the Carnival Overture and the second Slavonic Rhapsody.
Somogyi repeats the memorable impression of his two Westminster Haydn symphony discs/records: #s 22+78 and (even more) #s 89 and 90.
The phrasing and rhythmic emphases of Firkusny sound nearly as authentically Czech as that of Talich or Ancerl . Also highly recommended
is the considerably later (for Firkusny) Dvorak concerto with Rafael Kubelik /CPO after Kubelik's long exile from his homeland.
.
Firkusny has been one the most conspicuous pianists at the moment to promote Dvorak's piano music. So this performance own patriotic fervour and profound nationalist passion.
Go for it, because this piano Concerto deserves a major importance that most of pianists regard.
