Drug Interactions

Anjeer tree leaf extract may interact with anti-diabetic drugs and may lower the level of plasma glucose level. Consuming both, either at the same time or within short time gap may drop down the plasma glucose level below normal range and may lead to hypoglycemia. However, more studies are still required to confirm such an effect of the leaf extract.

History reveals that Anjeer fruits have been around since 5000 B.C. In English, Anjeer is called Fig. The scientific name of fig is ‘Ficus Carica’ and it is the unique member of the genus Ficus and family Moraceae. Ficus has more than 800 different species of shrubs, trees, climbers, and creepers. Out of all the species, ‘Anjeer Plant’ is widely cultivated in tropical and subtropical countries and has a high commercial value.

The anjeer tree is native to eastern Mediterranean and Southwest Asia. It is cultivated in regions with dry and warm climates and dried Anjeer fruits have been a familiar food since B.C. 3000. Commercial production of Anjir is carried out in different countries such as South America, Australia, California and Mediterranean countries. Turkey leads fig production in the world.

Anjeer plant is usually a small or moderate-sized deciduous tree, which is 15 to 30 feet high. Anjir fruits are pear-shaped and they vary in size and color. Anjir fruit has a jelly-like flesh with tiny seeds embedded in it. It has a tough outer peel, which is greenish-brown or purple in color. Upon ripening the tough peel cracks open, exposing the pulp beneath. The anjeer tree grows best on heavy clays, rich loams and light sandy soils with free drainage. At the time of fruit maturation and development, a dry climate is necessary, and it thrives best in dry localities with light rain.

    I just wanted to know how much quatity will be adequate to who have little problem in breathing.

    1. 1 to 2 soaked figs will be sufficient for breathing troubles. Clinically, it works when you feel weakness, fatigue or tiredness. Otherwise, it is also good, but as a nutritious tonic for respiratory system. Patient may require other remedies to control breathing troubles if weakness or respiratory fatigue is not the cause.

    1. Figs are generally beneficial due to nutritional support. It does not increase or decrease the weight. It also contains sugar content, so the best dosage is 50 grams for fresh figs and 10 to 15 grams for dried figs.

    1. Actually, figs and its leaves have cancer suppressive effects. In fact, it inhibits the growth of the cancer cells. The action of figs is on whole body including all organs, especially on colon. Therefore, consuming figs cannot increase any type of cancer risk or cannot promote growth of any type of cancer cells.

    1. Small amount of oxalates are present in figs. The amount of oxalate content is insignificant to cause kidney stones. Therefore, patients with kidney stones can eat figs and drink fig water.

    1. Figs have great benefits for patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). It can be used to improve hemoglobin level and digestion. It also helps lowering high blood pressure and preventing constipation in CKD patients.

      Caution:

      Figs contains high amount of potassium, so if your potassium level is under normal limits, it can be taken, but if potassium level in the blood is high, then figs are contraindicated.

    1. You can include Figs or Anjeer in your daily diet without any issue. In South India, many people are using figs throughout the life on daily basis.

      One to two figs a day are sufficient to get all benefits from them.

    1. Fresh figs (Anjeer) can be taken like other fruits in diabetes. Fresh figs contain a less amount of sugar content. The fresh figs can provide maximum benefits listed in this article.

      On the other hand, dried figs contain a high amount of sugar content, which may adversely affect your blood sugar level. Therefore, the best suggestion is to avoid the dried figs. If it is not possible, then one can still eat 1 to 2 dried figs (anjeers) per day. In such case, the continuous use of a single food is also not advisable, so you should also skip it on alternate days.
