Benedict Cumberbatch just said I Do – but who is his Cumberbride?

The Imitation Game actor, 38, and Sophie Hunter tied the knot on Saturday in an intimate ceremony at the Church of St. Peter and St. Paul on the Isle of Wight in England.

Like her husband, Hunter, 36, has a flair for the dramatics. (They did reportedly meet on the set of 2009's Burlesque Fairytales, after all. )

The newlywed – who studied French and Italian at Oxford – is perhaps best known for her playwriting and directing in avant-garde theater. In 2007, she received the prestigious Samuel Beckett Award for writing and directing the avant-garde play The Terrific Electric at the Barbican Centre.

However, Hunter is also no stranger to being in front of the camera – she had a role opposite current Oscar nominee Reese Witherspoon in 2004's Vanity Fair.

As for Cumberbatch's sex symbol status – he's gained an infatuated female fan base after starring in BBC's Sherlock – Hunter takes it all in stride.

"She's just so in command of it. It could be a difficult thing, but she's just really cool," Cumberbatch has told PEOPLE. "It's really impressive."

And their professions aren't all they have in common, though: Both have noble roots. Hunters' grandfather, the late General Sir James Michael Gow, was the Commander-in-Chief British Army of the Rhine and Commander Northag, the Army Group of Nato. As for Cumberbatch, his great-grandmother was Queen Victoria's consul general in Turkey.

What's more, Hunter even has a connection to Mottistone Manor, the historical property on which the church they married is located and where they celebrated their nuptials: The bride is related to the Nicholson family, who live on the estate.

"Sophie is one of the Nicholsons, which is why they have chosen to have it here," the Morristone local told PEOPLE. "The Nicholson family used to own the manor until they sold it to the National Trust … It's a beautiful house."

Another local said that Sophie's great grandmother, also named Sophie, is the sister of first Lord Mottistone, General Jack Seely, the famous World War I hero and friend of Winston Churchill. Current tenant Lord Charles Nicholson has a house in Hampshire and not there all the time. His father used to live there permanently after he retired.

Cumberbatch and Hunter went the traditional route in sharing their engagement news, posting a notice in the births, deaths and marriages column of British paper The Times in November.

"One of the most incredible things about getting engaged, which we had no idea would be coming back our way, is the amount of love that just comes flooding back," Cumberbatch told PEOPLE after the news of the impending nuptials broke. "I thought it was just all about us declaring that we were in love and getting married, but actually it's the world going, 'We love you too!' It's amazing. Family, friends, the world it's amazing."

As for what's next for the couple? Cumberbatch has been busy filming Sherlock, and the newlyweds are due to hit the red carpet Feb. 22 for the Oscars, where the actor is up for the Best Actor title.

Meanwhile, Hunter has work of her own to focus on – she's preparing to direct two plays written by British composer Benjamin Britten. Women's Wear Daily reports that one will debut at the Happy Days Enniskillen International Beckett Festival, which runs from July 23 to Aug. 3 and the other at the Aldeburgh Festival, which runs in June.

Oh, and there's a Cumber-baby on the way, too! PEOPLE confirmed Hunter's pregnancy in January with the actor's rep, who said: "They are over the moon."
