A leisurely walk past many beautiful boats and a busy boatyard. We’ve done it many times ever since it was first opened a few years ago. This year it seems to have gotten somewhat shabby for some reason. Gardens along the walk overgrown with weeds, park benches in need of paint and becoming overgrown, more litter, poop stations out of bags, etc. Watch out for silent bicycles coming up behind you on the walkway. There were people walking their dogs everywhere. One dog had defecated in the middle of the pedestrian bridge across the river, another urinated in the middle of the same bridge while we were there. Both dog owners pretended not to notice. Watch where you step. Only encountered one homeless person this visit. It’s still a nice walk, but turning into a mediocre experience.

We really enjoyed walking along the harbor in Belfast. We parked near the walking bridge. We started our walk by walking across the bridge and back. We saw nice fish and birds as we crossed. After coming back we walked along the water's edge.

It was very interesting to walk through a working boatyard. We were there at the right time to see them put a boat back in the water. We saw a sign that you can even take a tour of the boatyard at certain times.

This was a very pleasant walk.

I didn't read about this thoroughly and that's my error. It was lovely to walk the from Heritage Park to the pedestrian bridge, and over the bridge. However, we thought that we could walk the distance on the other side. There is NOT a similar walkway on the other side.
So keep that in mind and enjoy!

We did this pleasant walk while waiting for the restaurant to open, and glad we did. It's along the ocean, with wonderful view, large swings, and park and area businesses to pop in and out of. My wife met someone she works with years back doing the same thing, so that was nice for her

The Harborwalk in the city of Belfast is a gem for anyone who likes to walk and take in the sights. The mile-long paved walkway follows the shoreline along the city's harbor starting at the boathouse at the south end and ending on the opposite side of the harbor and Passagasaawakeag River via the pedestrian footbridge. The walkway even passes through a working shipyard and the lucky walker might get the chance to see large watercraft being hoisted into or out of the water. Along the way there are benches and places to have picnics. In the summer months the harbor is full of working and pleasure boats. The walkway also provides access to pubs and restaurants and the entire downtown area with scores of shops and restaurants. Also available are parts of the city's Museum in the Streets which features historic photos and information about the city's history.

The harbor walk is awesome. For being only about a mile long, it's actually pretty impressive how much the scenery changes. If you start on the south side with the boathouse, you have an amazing view of the bay. Before long, you reach the downtown with it's urban (well, urban for Maine's sake) park and view of Main Street. Then you walk between a few of bars/ restaurants with great food. Before you know it, you are walking in the middle of a busy, active shipyard everything from HUGE yachts to tiny sailboats that includes a boardwalk over the water with access to the docks. Last, but not least, you reach the footbridge across the bay with an AMAZING view of the town and a nice breeze. If you get lucky, you may even see a seal pop it's head up.

So to make a long story short, the harbor walk is definitely very cool and a great asset to this thriving town in midcoast Maine.

Belfast is far less celebrated than Maine coastal towns such as Camden, Rockland, and Bar Harbor, but that is unjust. The Belfast Harborwalk, particularly the portion over the Armistice Bridge, a footbridge over the Passagassawakeag River, is a worthy destination in itself, affording five-star views of Belfast Harbor and the Atlantic beyond. There are clean, well-maintained portable restrooms on both ends of the footbridge, which is something of a miracle in itself. The Harborwalk also connects to a rail trail up the river, itself offering exercise at your own pace and many tantalizing views. You can readily find all the magic of the Maine coast here, without the congestion.

Spent the week in Belfast. Didn't go to all the restaurants in town, but my husband rated thiis #1. I can't disagree. The whole clam dinner and the fried scallops were perfect lightly coated andthe best french fries. My husband who does not like fries not only ate all of them but finished before me! You shoud alsotry the pub pretzel and thyme martini.

The Harborwalk is a wide sidewalk that goes along the water's edge. It was a great place to stroll with our ice cream cones.

Waterfronts are always interesting as is this attractive and easily found pedestrian walkway. There many closeup views of the river, harbor and coming and going of boats as well as the services needed to supply & service boats. It is popular for all ages - the people using the walkway are friendly and courteous. There are many dog walkers who clean up after pooch has done its business, that is good-dogs are leashed and there is an occasional sudden dog squabble of which to be aware. Harborwalk is an excellent addition to Belfast.
