Motorcycle passenger killed, driver injured in Sunday crash in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD — One person is dead and another injured following a motorcycle crash in Springfield Sunday.

Calhoun County deputies were called to the crash on Michigan Avenue near Limit Street shortly before 4 p.m. Sunday, according to a release. Upon arrival, deputies found the motorcycle off the roadway with two individuals.

First responders attempted life-saving measures on the passenger but the person was ultimately pronounced dead at the scene, police said. Authorities did not immediately disclose the identity of the deceased Sunday.

The driver also suffered injuries in the crash and was taken to Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo for treatment, police said.

The Calhoun County Accident Reconstruction Team is investigating the incident; initial investigation suggests speed was a factor in the crash, police said.

Deputies were assisted by the Calhoun County Consolidated Dispatch Authority, LifeCare Ambulance, the Springfield Fire Department and the Battle Creek Police Department.
