Vernon Native Gallant Sworn In As Acting Chief Of Police

A Vernon native has been named acting police chief.

VERNON, CT — With the retirement of Vernon Police Chief John Kelley becoming official on Friday, Capt. Lucas Gallant will be taking over as acting chief

Kelley's retirement goes into effect at 4 p.m. Friday and Gallant will take the helm until a new police chief is appointed.

Gallant was sworn in Thursday afternoon at Town Hall by Town Clerk Karen Daigle.

He was named captain in Sept. 2021. Gallant is a Vernon native who had his start in the Vernon Police Explorers program. He has led the patrol and detective divisions, among other responsibilities at the VPD.

Kelley will be taking a position with the Ellington school system.
