Certificate Problem with Bank of America website after Windows - Microsoft Community

Certificate Problem with Bank of America website after Windows updates.

OT: Certificate Problem with Bank of America website?.

I am running Windows 7 Pro 64-bit, and about December 17th I began noticing that I could no longer access the Bank of America website, from any browser installed on my PC.  I have Firefox 34, Chrome, and IE-11, but all time out and refuse to reach BofA.  Last night I did a complete clean reinstall and found that I could reach BofA without the problems I'd had.  Then I had some updates install today, mostly Office 2010 stuff and now I'm back to the same problem.  Someone suggested that I might have an issue related to an update that's causing a "Certificate Problem" but they couldn't tell me which update had recently been associated with that.  The strangest part of this problem is that no other banking site I use has this problem.  In fact I have found no other sites which this problem occurs.

Hi,

Thank you for contacting Microsoft Community.

This issue may occur if Date/Time and Time Zone is incorrect or recently installed Windows Updates made any changes into your computer. I suggest you to check Date/Time and Time Zone, refer the link Set the clock. If both are correct, then refer the article below and check if issue still persists.

System Restore;

Thank you for your advice.  Unfortunately, the issue of Date&Time or Time Zone was not a problem.  As far as using system restore, there are so many updates that were installed after my complete clean install of Windows 7 Pro 64-Bit, that I might as well wipe the drive clean and try it once again.

The only thing I will do differently this time is change my update settings to allow me to do each one manually, rather than all at once and thus creating a complete mess and not knowing which update is causing the problem.  I will say this, after installing the OS, I only installed Firefox 34 and Bitdefender 2015 Total Security, and Office 2010 Pro.  The problem seems very odd in that it ONLY affects Bank of America's website's from loading.  Of course I had contacted BofA and they claimed it was my computer.  I have a laptop which uses Windows Vista Home Premium and when using Firefox 34 I can get BofA to connect from all browsers using the same internet connection.  So I know it's not my router or service.

I am not yet prepared to do the reinstall as it is very time consuming.  So if anybody can come up with a better course of action before that, I would really appreciate it.

The only thing I will do differently this time is change my update settings to allow me to do each one manually,

My recommendation would be to install
the updates in batches, such 5 at a time, exclude
hardware/driver (OPTIONAL) updates.

Avoid installing a combination of
Microsoft Windows and Office updates at the same time.

   Avoid installing things like .NET
Framework and SQL Express Updates mixed with the other updates.

Restart əach
time you install the updates (its a chore, but it guarantees a more
reliable experience).

Try starting out with Microsoft Office
Updates for programs such as (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).

Another thing, try downloading the
updates then install them.

When prompted to restart, disconnect
from the Internet and restart your computer.

Proceed with installing the additional
updates.

How to troubleshoot a problem by
performing a cləan boot in
Windows Vista/Windows 7

<http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135>

Once the Fixit has been downloaded and
the system booted to the Cləan
state, check to see that the native Windows firewall is now On if a
3rd party firewall was being used previously.

I suggest before shutting down and
installing any updates, disconnect from the Internet first.

I think I've identified the problem.  I may have mentioned that I use Bitdefender 2015 Total Security as my antivirus.  When I installed it, I left everything at the default level and the very first time I open any browser, Bitdefender asked me to allow it to "Secure" my browsers.  A dialog box appears and asks this permission and if you agree and click "Okay" if then closes whichever browser that is open and "Secures" it.

I discovered this as being the most likely reason this has happened by accident.  I created a new profile in Windows 7 Pro 64-bit and opened it.  I then opened Firefox 34 and Bitdefender asked me to allow it to secure my browser.  I clicked "Cancel" this time and then searched for Bank of America's website links, and it took me right into the site without any of the loading problems I experienced before.

I sent Bitdefender a support message explaining the problem, but as yet have not had a response other than an automated one telling me they had received my request.

The problem I seem to have now is that I can't disable whatever Bitdefender has done in my primary profile through any settings in the UI.  This presents two problems. One, I will not be able to connect to BofA through this profile.  Two, if Bitdefender is truly the problem (which it seems to be) then I cannot enable the protection their software uses to protect my web browsers, which seems to defeat the purpose of having this level of protection in the first place.

Have you tried completely uninstalling Bitdefender and then reinstalling?
