Bangladesh Jute Mills Corporation (BJMC) was established under article 10 of the Bangladesh Industrial Enterprises (Nationalization) Order, 1972 (PO 27 of 1972), with the aim and objective of controlling, supervising and coordinating the activities of the jute mills, nationalized and placed under it. The jute mills of BJMC buy jute through purchase centers located all over the country ensuring the fair price to the farmers. At present, there are 26 mills of which 23 are jute mills and 03 are non-jute mills. The total workforce in BJMC and its mills is approximately 75,000. BJMC earns yearly around BDT 1500 crore, as a foreign exchange through selling jute goods.
