Lisa Alspector Chicago Reader An audiovisually complex drama that's better than slick, though it feels pointless-another homage to a kind of filmmaking that's had more than its share. Mar 18, 2010 Full Review Jonathan F. Richards Film.com Bangkok Dangerous mixes mindless violence, sappy romance, and philosophical pretentiousness. On the whole, it does the first better than the other two. Sep 19, 2008 Full Review Nick Schager Lessons of Darkness Doesn't make much of a lasting impression except as a case study in the dreariness of style-over-substance filmmaking when said style is the height of derivativeness. Rated: C+ Aug 27, 2008 Full Review Jae-Ha Kim Jae-Ha Kim Kong is a deaf-mute assassin unable to hear his victims begging for mercy as he completes his assignments. He meticulously silences his victims in “Bangkok Dangerous,” a beautifully gory film in which there are no heroes, just bad guys. Rated: 3/4 Jul 26, 2023 Full Review Brian Gibson Vue Weekly (Edmonton, Alberta) The pacing is usually clumsy and transitions are clunky. There are two bravura sequences not quite worth the price of submission . . . other scenes suggest that the Pang Brothers really want to make a new horror film, not retread stagnant action plots. Oct 9, 2008 Full Review MaryAnn Johanson Flick Filosopher The Pangs have the eye of born filmmakers: [this] is stylishly shot, if a bit undisciplined, and its story told almost entirely visually - there's very little dialogue - but perhaps their screenwriting skills could use some brushing up... Liam D It takes what would be a bland Thriller and has a great lead character, fantastic direction and amazing action sequences Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/10/21 Full Review Audience Member Greatly devoid of the visual style and direction it needs to be truly serviceable. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/20/23 Full Review s r It wanted to be good, but it fell way short of the mark. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member What a great and stylish crime drama. Too bad most people will think of the terrible remake starring Nick Cage. It has every thing including a rape scene for those of you with triggers that require warnings. It is also a beautiful love story and an action movie with a twist you'd never see coming. Making Kong deaf adds an element to the cinematic storytelling. Up there with Brother and the Boondock saints. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/04/23 Full Review troy k Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't, but it was definitely interesting. Very atmospheric. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Okay... so, this movie is super derivative of American action movies. But that's okay, because the Thai need movies like ours starring them. BUT WHY ARE WE ADAPTING THEIR CARBON COPIES INTO MOVIES!?!? That said, there's nothing special about this film.
