Is BAIT a good major? I kinda regret majoring in it.

Advice Wanted

I’m a sophomore at RBS majoring in BAIT, and I’m not liking many of my classes so far. I’ve finished most of the SAS core, all pre-business classes, and I’m now on to the business core. I’ve seen many people on this subreddit say the business core is filled with “fluff” and useless classes, but my god is it boring. I’m doing well grade-wise, but I don’t know if I should stick with BAIT or switch to something else.

I took a couple of CS classes in high school and Comp Apps for Business here at RU and really liked it. Would a CS (BA degree) be doable in 2.5 years? Or should I just minor in it? I’m willing to take some summer classes. I’d like to go into software engineering, and CS seems better for that than BAIT.

The thing is, though, I’m more interested in the physical aspect of things and have been looking into doing ECE or MechE. I’ve been talking to many people doing engineering, and they seem pretty miserable and tell me how hard it is. I’ve taken Calc 1 and Chem 1 here at RU, and those classes were kinda rough. I ended up dropping Calc 1 (I switched to Math 123 - Prep for Calc). I ultimately took Calc 1 at a community college, which I did well in. I’ve been thinking about dropping out of RU and doing prereqs for engineering at a community college to save time and money, and then transfer to an engineering school. I’m worried about some of the upper-level engineering classes though, and how many extra semesters I would have to stay in school.

I’m thinking just CS or BAIT with a minor in CS might be a better option. The requirements for CS don’t look too bad, and I would be able to graduate in 4 years.

If you read this till the end - thank you. I just feel really lost about what I should major in. I have thought a lot about this, but I would appreciate it if any of you had any advice.

Ridiculous advice.
Employers have no idea what the difference is, as it varies from university to university. They'll just see that you have a bachelors degree in CS.

just add a CS minor to get some more real technical skills. for all majors in general, you're never going to get exactly what you want experience wise. even the CS major has a lot of classes that get into deep technical concepts that you will almost never use in the real workforce.

but if you really want to be a software engineer or back-end developer, then feel free to switch to CS. but if you want to stay more on the technical business side, then stick with BAIT and do the CS minor to get most of the CS core experience

It's...well...bait

BAIT on its own has really good career prospects, but for software engineering, it would be way more beneficial to either a) major in CS, or b) minor in it because most interviews will rely on you knowing data structures which is a CS requirement for both the major and the minor

I've done 2 SWE internships and also got hired full time as a SWE for after graduation & BAIT was actually kind of a plus in the sense that I learned how to effectively communicate and was also able to understand the bigger picture of how a business is run. But for the technical interviews & technical aspects of the SWE internships, you def need some exposure to CS

engineering is arguably the best thing to study, but yes it is hard. if your end goal is swe then do cs, engineering could cover everything else

whatever you do, do not do computer engineering.

Can you elaborate please? Thanks
