The Star Wars animated series The Bad Batch, created by Dave Filoni, saw almost immediate success upon its release. With the same animation style as The Clone Wars, The Bad Batch follows the lives of a group of altered Clone Commandos dubbed Clone Force 99, although colloquially referred to as the “Bad Batch.” Together, they carry out special missions that regular Clone Troopers would not be capable of and were, incidentally, introduced in The Clone Wars's season 7. Every member of Clone Force 99 is defective in some way; genetically altered to have more skill in one area of combat, from physical strength to precise sniping, they each bring something to the table.

Each member of the Bad Batch is a Clone of Jango Fett, but each has its own unique alterations, making them different and individual, both in skill and physical appearance, from Wrecker’s huge physical size to Tech’s incredible ability to make calculations at alarming rates. The members of the main cast are truly a sight to behold. With The Bad Batch being renewed for a second season on Disney+, it’s only right that we look back on this masterpiece and admire the main characters. This is every main character from The Bad Batch, ranked.

Updated September 26, 2022: If you love Star Wars: The Bad Batch, you'll be excited to know we have updated this list in preparation for the upcoming second season next year.

8 Nala Se

Nala Se
LucasFilms

Nala Se was the chief scientist behind the creation of the clones that fought in the Clone Wars. She's something of a complicated figure; while seeing the clones as nothing more than disposable property, she is shown to care greatly for the life of Omega, an alternative female clone. When Clone Force 99 makes its escape from Kamino, Se deliberately goes against orders from the Empire and aids the renegade clones in their escape. Later, when Prime Minister Lama Su dispatched bounty hunters to hunt the rogue clones, Nala Se hired Fennec Shand to protect her. She is later captured by the Empire in the episode "Kamino Lost" and transported to Mount Tantiss for further use.

7 Vice Admiral Rampart

Admiral Rampart in Star Wars: The Bad Batch
Lucasfilm

Although he was introduced in The Bad Batch, Rampart has already played a big part in shaping installments set after the series by heading the recruitment initiative responsible for the creation of the Stormtroopers, which will gradually replace the clone troopers over time. He believes that the Stormtroopers would be a more valiant and loyal army than the Clones did and would help usher in a new age of peace and prosperity under Galactic rule. As the season 1's main antagonist, he's fiercely devoted to the Empire but doesn't seem to view the chaos and destruction they leave in their wake as an issue. In this instance, every action of his is a means to a greater end.

6 Crosshair

Lucasfilm

A formidable sniper with exceptional skill in stealth, Crosshair is a member of the Bad Batch until his inhibitor chip kicks in. As much as his comrades try to help him, Crosshair is no longer in control of his actions. He quickly winds up being one of the main antagonists in the show, forced to follow every order from the Empire and leading the hunt for the Bad Batch. This betrayal weighs on every member of the Bad Batch as they lose one of their own to the Empire. While Crosshair’s time on the good side is short-lived, we still see his talents flourish, making him an evenly matched foe for the Bad Batch.

5 Echo

Echo in Star Wars: The Bad Batch
Lucasfilm Animation

A familiar name to fans of The Clone Wars, the big reveal comes as it is shown that while Echo may have died, he was resurrected and “re-purposed” to become a member of the Bad Batch. What makes Echo unique is that he is not technically living, which he often uses to his advantage to pass himself off as a droid. Not only is his appearance in the show a nostalgic reminder of The Clone Wars, but adding Echo to the Bad Batch connects The Clone Wars and The Bad Batch in a way that nothing else could. Needless to say, the resurrection of this beloved character was a great decision.

4 Tech

Living up to his name, Tech excels in everything technologically related, including finding a machine that will remove their inhibitor chips and prevent them from falling under the spell of Order 66. Thanks to his amazing knowledge and data analysis skills, Tech has the most to say when it comes to tactics and strategies on the battlefield, weighing every outcome and coming up with the best route for the group to take at an incredible speed that rivals that of a droid. Tech’s skills may not seem very physical, but he is a valuable asset to the team, as he aids in their planning and strategy. He is the key to their success on the battlefield.

3 Wrecker

Wrecker in The Bad Batch
Lucasfilm Animation

Wrecker is pure brute force, given the gift of incredible strength and love of explosives. While Wrecker might seem intimidating, he's a big softie on the inside with a special place in his heart for Omega. While Wrecker’s physical force is something to be reckoned with, he's not the most intelligent member of the Bad Batch. His allegiance to the group is under threat when his inhibitor chip begins to kick in, and he finds himself struggling with what he feels compelled to do versus what he knows is right. Many fans have chalked this up to his physical size advancing the activation of the chip, an issue that was resolved after their chips were removed.

2 Hunter

LucasFilms

Bearing a striking resemblance to John Rambo from the Rambo movies is Hunter, the leader of the Bad Batch. Hunter not only has a natural knack for sharp observation and an increase in his natural hunting senses, but he also fills the leadership role with ease. He bridges gaps and makes peace when those among the group butt heads, always deciding what is best for their group. Hunter is an all-around precise warrior and a compassionate leader, making him one of the best characters in the main cast. It’s obvious why many fans were devastated at the prospect that Hunter could have died in the 15th episode of season one, but thankfully he survived, and we have more of his leadership to look forward to.

1 Omega

War-Mantle
LucasFilms

Omega is a small child that The Bad Batch meets on Kamino, and while they are confused by her presence, they pay her no mind. Omega has been sheltered all her life, given almost no freedom as the Kaminoans insist on observing her. Omega decides to take her life into her own hands and stows away with The Bad Batch, but before they can return her home, Order 66 breaks out, throwing everything into chaos. While much of Omega’s character is still a mystery, it’s clear that Omega is not only powerful in her own right, but she is truly an underdog whose full power is unknown, living up to her name.
