Babylon Berlin's humor and humanity pair nicely with its hypnotic visuals, resulting in a show that dazzles within its oversaturated genre.

Ace W If you thought Great Gatsby got the Roaring '20s right, and Peak Blinders satisfied an itch for gritty historical fiction, Babylon Berlin throws a bone to everyone who wants to walk while chewing bubblegum. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/15/23 Full Review debiorick Amazing series One of the best I have seen on Netflix Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/28/23 Full Review mark s This series starts out really strong, with excellent character development and a clearly defined plotline, but like every German produced series I've ever seen, it eventually gets so over-engineered with side plots that it becomes completely incoherent. It finally collapses upon itself early in season 3. Sad. It had so much promise. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 03/23/23 Full Review Jeff M One the finest TV series ever produced. A must for fans of historical fiction. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/06/23 Full Review V O I like it BUT very hard for me to get past the really bad English speaking voice actors. I've never seen a show more poorly cast. I am sure watching it in German with English subtitles would be better... I'll be switching to that... Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/31/23 Full Review James M One of the best series I've seen on Netflix. It's full of historical color and has a gripping plot. The acting is superb, especially that of Liv Lisa Fries, who gives her character a believability that really moves you--bold, resourceful, unapologetic about trying to make her way in a very troubled time and place. Yet with a depth of feeling for those facing the dark days that will lead to Nazism, including the dissolute embrace of dancehall frenzy, which is so brilliantly caught in the show-stopping number seen at YouTube as "Zu Asche, Zu Staub (Psycho Nikoros)". TV doesn't get any better than this. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/20/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Kathryn VanArendonk New York Magazine/Vulture Part noir, part spy thriller, part historical portrait, Babylon Berlin's characters are striking enough that you're happy to follow along, even when you're not super clear on what exactly is happening. May 2, 2018 Full Review Anne Cohen Refinery29 Social context aside, the show is elevated even further by truly superb acting, and a narrative flow that assumes that viewers are intelligent enough to follow a story without having to explain every single twist. Mar 1, 2018 Full Review Suzi Feay Financial Times It's all wonderfully gripping, and Bruch has the most pained, expressive eyes you'll see all year. Rated: 5/5 Mar 1, 2018 Full Review Elisa Guimarães Collider Extremely thrilling and captivating, the show also paints an intricate portrait of the last days of the Weimar Republic. Tykwer is also credited with writing and directing many of the episodes. Feb 1, 2024 Full Review Kenneth R. Morefield 1More Film Blog Works equally well as a period melodrama and a portrait of individual people (and a broader culture) battling against not just political forces but also against their own emotions wrought by seeing the world around them drifting towards insanity. Rated: 3/4 Nov 3, 2020 Full Review Sarah Boslaugh TheArtsStl ...[Charlotte Ritter] represents both the new freedom enjoyed by women in this period, and the discrimination which remained a fact of their existence.
