Ayesha Dharker Biography

Ayesha Dharker is a British-Indian actress, better known for award winning performance in National award winning Tamil movie – The terrorist, directed by Santosh Sivan. She has also appeared in Hollywood films such as Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones, Outsourced and The Mistress of Spices. Arabian Nights, the West End and Broadway musical Bombay Dreams are her noted television serials. In the movie ‘The terrorist’, she portrayed the 19-year-old woman, Malli who was send as a suicide bomb to assassinate a leader in South Asia. The performance gave her Best Artistic Contribution by an Actress at Cairo International Film Festival in the year 1998. She also received a nomination at National Film Award for Best Actress and Chlotrudis Award the same year.

 

Ayesha Dharker was born in Mumbai in the year 1978. Her father Anil Dharker, an Indian is a columnist and an ex-editor of Debonair. Her mother Imtiaz Dharker is a noted Scottish poet, artist and documentary film-maker. In May 2010, Ayesha married her British boyfriend Robert Taylor. Dharker made her screen debut in the 1989 François Villiers film Manika: Une vie plus tard. After that she appeared in many Indian films as well as American and French movies. Cutting It and Life Isn't All Ha Ha Hee Hee are her noted television serials in UK during this period.

 

1999 Tamil movie, The Terrorist was the career breakthrough movie of Ayesha which gained her international attention as well as appreciation in the form of best actress award and nominations at many international film festivals. She played Queen Jamillia, the Queen of Naboo, in Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones in 2002, which is her internationally noted film role. Now she is a recurring cast member of the BBC Asian Network radio serial Silver Street.
