The avian way!

Indeed Featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
Most companies describe themselves as a culture-first company or a family-based company. However, they don't practice those beliefs. AVIAN practices what they preach. This company shows this "on and off the field". If you need something personally there is always a teammate who will assist or if you need help in the office there are a plethora of resources. I have been with this company for 5 years and there is a reason I haven't left. I have held multiple positions in this company and have loved every single one of them. For reviews that talk about advancement and movement in the organization, I have to say that sometimes upward advancement is difficult in smaller organizations. However, AVIAN is getting bigger giving more opportunities for upward advancement along with them installing career pathing giving employees a clear path to advance. They also have flexible time off which is a unique leave concept.

Pros

Culture, Fulfilling Work, Leadership

AVIAN is an employer that cares about us!

AVIAN is a diverse and dynamic place to work. The culture is incredibly positive with intentional and meaningful investment in developing employees who are dedicated. Leadership is always looking for ways to grow opportunities in new markets while maintaining strong links to core areas of expertise like RDT&E. There is a very personal feel to the workplace, with connections to colleagues through volunteering together or sharing birthday or seasonal celebrations, like summer picnics, annual meetings, and pot-luck lunches. I worked in the Training, Multimedia, and Consulting Sector for a number of years on training for Test & Evaluation. The teamwork, creativity, and mission-focus was inspiring and we had a lot of success in our courseware development for operational testers. We designed the company's largest-ever curriculum (3.5 weeks) that included instructor-led, video-based, and online training. Once that contracted effort was completed, I chose to stay with AVIAN in a role as a project manager. The support we are giving to the US Navy's mission with rapid prototyping and fielding of new capabilities is extremely compelling!

Pros

Friendly work environment, regular communication from leadership, vital support for the missions of our customers (US Navy)

Cons

Turnover of employees and some restructuring as the company grows

An employer that cares about it's employees

Prior to AVIAN I can't think of a position where I felt so secure. In govt. contracting that is typically unheard of. AVIAN has flexible hours and the addition of FTO has improved my quality of life. They have training programs and benefits that support their employees growth even if it means they grow out of their position at AVIAN. I have been here for six years now and still look forward to starting my day.

Family atmosphere and we always check on each other.

AVIAN has been the best decision I have made since retiring from the US Navy. I was told to find "a" job until "the" job came along. I found "the" job with AVIAN.

Pros

They feed us at training events. We also "Own" the Company. #ESOP

Cons

Spread out across the Nation, so I don't get to meet all our Owners in person.

Stable Company & No Advancement

If you seek a stable company that has generous compensation, flexibility & great benefits, and if you aren't interested in advancing, then Avian is your company. Unless you're retired military or a long-time local resident, don't expect any advancement. Lateral transfers will be the only thing available to you. Avian has a great community footprint, and they will try real hard to keep you employed & engaged at your current level. Program Managers only interested in keeping the customer happy, and don't often support their staff.

A fun, energetic place to build your career

I've worked for AVIAN for almost and decade. I started here supporting a Navy customer and later transferred to a corporate position. Maybe it was just the right timing, but I've felt as though I've been afforded many opportunities to contribute to the success of the company and have the privilege of working along side some amazing folks. AVIAN's founder and the executive leaders of the company truly believe in taking care of their employees first and foremost.

Pros

employee-owned, generous, exciting team events

Cons

Some company growing pains

Best place ever

Their motto of work awesome is so true. They live by what they say and make employees feel valued and like family. They truly do make their employees their first priority

Nice on the Surface

Huge push for pride in reputation in the little SOMD region - but true management & care of people is sadly lacking... Rather good benefits, but High School attitudes diminish them.

Great company with amazing management

AVIAN LLC is a great company to work for. Salary is good, and the co-owners go out of their way to show that they really care about the employees. The company is expanding in size, and try their best to offer the employees any benefits that come from the expansion.

Prides itself on being a family.

Teamwork and acceptance into the AVIAN family is a huge part of their culture. They work hard to accomplish this, but the outreach for remote sites is lacking.

Good Company, but hard to advance if you're young

I like working for the company, and when working at HQ in Lexington Park it was wonderful, mainly due to the atmosphere in the office. Most of the employees are wonderful people to talk to and work with, and the spaces are constantly updated which also helps the feel of walking in to work. If you're working in Lexington Park this is a 5-star company no question. The issue with me has been working at one of the other locations away from HQ. The pay isn't equal to the norm especially if you're in a metro area, and you don't feel the same AVIAN culture that you do in Lexington Park. Another big issue has been working on site with my government customer. I feel like I'm on an island working alone with no guidance or help with all the government employees giving you tasks to do. The hardest part of working here to me is finding a path for upward mobility. I have seen young people in this company work their way to management positions, which has made it more frustrating for me. Seeing someone do it, but not finding a way to do it yourself can be hard. It's hard to tell whether I need to improve performance, get more education, or if I'm just not someone they want to bring along that will eventually sit in a leadership role. Finally, I want to end on a good note because I do believe this is a good company and a good experience for anyone looking to join the team. The most enjoyable part of working with AVIAN would hands down be the culture set by leadership. This company cares about its employees and its community, and being a part of a team like that really does -

Pros

Workplace Culture, Environment at HQ, Benifits

Cons

Upward Mobility, Environment away from HQ

Productive and fun work place

A typical day started with giving everyone what was expected for that day along with what was coming ahead for the week. Everyone got along with everyone, and we all liked working with each other.
