The Inside Story of the Real President Trump, by His Former Attorney and Personal Advisor—The Man Who Helped Get Him Into the Oval Office

Once Donald Trump’s fiercest surrogate, closest confidant, and staunchest defender, Michael Cohen knows where the skeletons are buried.

This is the most devastating business and political horror story of the century. As Trump’s lawyer and “fixer,” Cohen not only witnessed firsthand but was also an active participant in the inner workings of Trump’s business empire, political campaign, and presidential administration.

This is a story that you have not read in newspapers, or on social media, or watched on television. These are accounts that only someone who worked for Trump around the clock for over a decade—not a few months or even a couple of years—could know. Cohen describes Trump’s racist rants against President Barack Obama, Nelson Mandela, and Black and Hispanic people in general, as well as the cruelty, humiliation, and abuse he leveled at family and staff. Whether he’s exposing the fact that Trump engaged in tax fraud by inflating his wealth or electronic fraud by rigging an online survey, or outing Trump’s Neanderthal views towards women or his hush-money payments to clandestine lovers, Cohen pulls no punches.

He shows Trump’s relentless willingness to lie, exaggerate, mislead, or manipulate. Trump emerges as a man without a soul—a man who courts evangelicals and then trashes them, panders to the common man, but then rips off small business owners, a con man who will do or say absolutely anything to win, regardless of the cost to his family, his associates, or his country.

At the heart of Disloyal, we see how Cohen came under the spell of his charismatic "Boss" and, as a result, lost all sense of his moral compass.

The real "real" Donald Trump who permeates these pages—the racist, sexist, homophobic, lying, cheating President—will be discussed, written about, and analyzed for years to come.

Review

A #1 New York Times Bestseller!

This book almost didn’t see the light of day as government officials tried to bar its publication.

"I read it cover-to-cover. I did not intend to, but I started at the beginning and didn’t put it down until it was over."—Rachel Maddow, MSNBC
“I make the finding that
the purpose of transferring Mr. Cohen from furlough and home confinement to jail is retaliatory. And it’s retaliatory because of his desire to exercise his First Amendment rights to publish a book and to discuss anything about the book or anything else he wants on social media and with others.”—Federal District Court Judge Alvin K. Hellerstein

Trump has tried to stop the publication of unflattering books about him before, including his very recent and unsuccessful attempts to silence his former national security advisor John Bolton and Mary Trump, the President’s niece. But the attempted suppression of Cohen’s book is different from prior efforts because it uses (and abuses) DOJs hammer of incarceration.”—Jennifer Rodgers, CNN

“Was federal law enforcement punishing Cohen because he’d worked on a book critical of the president?
Was the White House responsible for orchestrating Cohen’s re-imprisonment? Was Team Trump pulling levers to silence the president’s former fixer ahead of the election?”—Steve Benen, MSNBC

“'JUDGE ORDERS COHEN RELEASED, CITING “RETALIATION” OVER TELL-ALL BOOK.’
A judge agreed that federal officials had returned Michael D. Cohen to prison because he wanted to publish a book about President Trump.”—The New York Times

“The idea that Michael Cohen is sitting in solitary confinement because he won’t sign papers committing not to publish a book is unfathomable.
This is the United States of America. We don’t send people to solitary confinement because they want to write a book.”—Alan Dershowitz, author of The Case Against Impeaching Trump

Michael Cohen’s book to allege Trump made racist comments about Obama and Nelson Mandela, lawsuit says.”—Washington Post

Michael Cohen’s, “Disloyal”
5 Stars
Michael Cohen’s, “Disloyal”
Michael Cohen’s “Disloyal” is all at once a riveting exposé and thrilling memoir. Cohen takes us deep into the mind of the power of a demagogue and the influence he has towards both his witting enablers, and the unwitting blind adoration from those aptly referred to as the Trump Cult. Make no mistake about it, Michael Cohen takes personal responsibility for his years of dirty deeds for Donald Trump. Mr. Cohen offers no personal excuses for his past culpability. Cohen simply presents to us the unvarnished truth. This unvarnished truth often reflects Michael in a bad light, but he presents to us the complete whole picture so that the public is aptly warned about the threat that Donald Trump, his sycophants and cultists continue to pose to our nation. More than simply an exposé or a personal memoir, “Disloyal” is a clarion call for the nation. As Donald Trump’s legal problems continue to mount and indictments near for himself, family members and associates, his rash outbursts are inevitably going to increase. Fortunately for the nation, he no longer has the power of the presidency and the federal government at his disposal. Still, the sad spectacle of Trump’s insurrection on January 6 shows the threat that remains. This real-life story is part of Mr. Cohen’s path towards redemption. In other words, a part of his mea culpa. The power of the Trump Cult is real and has ruined countless friends and family relationships. Despite Donald Trump being out of office, the power of this cultish influence continues to exacerbate among Trump’s most devout and faithful believers. Mr. Cohen took this to another level and provides these details with frank honest assessments and self-reflection. Spending time in a federal prison facility in New York named Otisville, Michael reflects on all the good times and bad; and the fact that he sold his soul completely and wholly to a con man who didn’t deserve his unwavering loyalty. This one-way loyalty resulted in not only a prison sentence for Mr. Cohen, but ended up hurting the ones he loved most. Serving a prison sentence for crimes committed on behalf of Individual-1 AKA Donald Trump, Cohen ended up hurting the people he most loved and cherished: his wife Laura and his two children Samantha and Jake. This is not to even mention his father who survived the Holocaust to see Michael having gone so far down that proverbial rabbit hole that he defended Mr. Trump on the campaign trail from allegations of racism by invoking his father’s harrowing survival during the Holocaust. For all this, Michael remains eternally in shame to those who loved him most and stuck with him through the good and bad. To the rest of us, Michael provides a redemption story of sorts. Mr. Cohen through documentation and his lived experience reveals the unvarnished Trump. In this way, the public along with federal and state prosecutors have the information that is needed so that history records Donald Trump as the individual whose dirty deeds don’t go unpunished.Donald Trump’s corruption and debauchery are even more lurid and depraved that one can imagine. Living in the world of Trump, often reality and lies intertwined with Trump and his sycophants; blending reality and falsehoods where neither one completely existed on their own. In reflecting on this, one must look no further than the present day. Donald Trump’s Big Lie continues unabated as he peddles falsehoods and lies about his defeat to President Joe Biden. Mr. Cohen provides us with the prime motivations: Trump’s sociopathic narcissism and his fear of imprisonment. Additionally, the details of Trump’s obsessive manic jealousy of President Barack Obama that Mr. Cohen provides to us compels one to reconsider the possibility of the infamous ‘pee tape’ that has been discussed in comedy shows as revealed to the general public via the Steele dossier. The rumors of the existence of such a recording did not originate from the aforementioned dossier. In fact, it goes years back originating from what seems to be individuals affiliated with Russian oligarchs. Take a journey with Michael to Las Vegas in which Donald Trump attended a similar function hosted by none other than the Agalarov family. The same father and son Russian oligarchs who years later would host the Miss Universe pageant that took place in Moscow. The same family who set up the infamous Trump Tower meeting with a Russian government attorney who promised damaging information on Hillary Clinton. It was during this aforementioned Moscow trip in which it was rumored that Donald Trump out of spite and jealousy hired prostitutes to urinate on the same Ritz Carlton bed that President Obama spent a night during his presidency. One might dismiss such a lurid tale, but Michael describes in detail the story of the fake Obama that Donald Trump hired so that he could pretend play in demeaning and then firing him. The sociopathic depravity of Donald Trump has no bottom; and we must fully be aware of the threat that the power of the Trump Cult presents to this very day. In fact, Michael has had to live with continued death threats aimed against him and his family to instill fear on those who dare to speak out. Despite these threats, Mr. Cohen has committed to speaking truth to power in the hopes of redeeming himself in the eyes of his family, his country, and for recorded history. As Michael often says, he will not be the villain in Donald Trump’s story. History will be recorded accordingly.Michael Cohen was not only Donald Trump’s personal attorney; in reality he was Trump’s fixer who did all things big and small with unwavering loyalty. In acknowledging his years of sycophancy and dirty deeds for the so-called ex-President, we must also acknowledge the fact that there would be no legal accountability on the horizon for Donald Trump were it not for Mr. Cohen. Michael Cohen’s Congressional testimony and his cooperation with both federal and New York State prosecutors has brought us to a place in which accountability for Donald Trump & his crime family are on the horizon. As we speak, Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance and New York State Attorney General Letitia James have active grand jury investigations that are likely to result in the indictment of Donald J. Trump. Mr. Cohen could have taken the path that others like Paul Manafort and Roger Stone took as they remained silent and continued to lie for Trump resulting in their subsequent pardons. To paraphrase Mr. Cohen, Donald Trump must be held accountable for his own dirty deeds.

Well written, easy to follow. Gives you an insight how our justice system is a joke. Michael shows us how presidential appointed Judges just don't work, as we have witnessed time and time again with Trump. Trump rather go to court than pay his creditors. Trump uses the judiciary system to avoid paying back any of the loans he has. This book shows us how much above the law most billionaires are. Several times in the book you will hear this statement: "if an ordinary person was caught doing the same thing, they would be sent to prison"! After reading this book, it bolstered my dislike for Trump.

Well I did it - I read Michael Cohen's book "Disloyal". It's the first book about this presidency that I have read all the way through. I've bought a few, fully intending to read them, but I don't think I made it more than half-way through any of them before I just couldn't bring myself to continue. But this one was VERY different, and it really held my attention!

First, let me say it really was surprisingly well-written, at least in the first 3/4 of the book. The writing got a little sloppier and the story less cohesive towards the end, but by that time I was already captured and needed to finish.
The main difference between this book and the others is that it read almost like a novel. It wasn't just a dry recitation of what transpired, or a deep analysis...it was this man's pretty dramatic and surprisingly entertaining story of HIS experiences, told from his point of view. And he was VERY open about his own failings throughout. In fact he seemed to be using this as a way to help himself understand why he allowed himself to do such heinous things in the service of his flawed, amoral, clearly sociopathic master...and how he got sucked into it to begin with. It was almost like reading the story of an ex-Scientologist who finally woke up, and is now trying to understand how and why he believed such batshittery.

I did try to take it all with a grain of salt, but the thing is, it all rang 100% true. There was nothing self-serving in here. He's not looking for redemption, or forgiveness, or a come-back. He didn't try to mask or defend his own evil deeds - he openly detailed them, acknowledging how awful they were, and took full responsibility.
It also rang true because it described Trump EXACTLY as I've always seen him, so there was nothing that surprised me. It's the Trump I've always known...just, directly from someone who saw it all up-close and behind closed doors.

And boy is he a monster. Just as I always knew he was.

AND...Cohen has the receipts! There are just massive amounts of proof - photos, documents, court decisions, all of it. So much of this happened right in front of us, right under our very noses. But with Trump and his minions lying to everyone about it, most of it just got ignored. And there were so MANY scandals, each one more shocking than the last, that we've all become completely numb to it. Any ONE of the thousands of small and large scandals would have sunk any candidate or president in the past, but nobody before has been so willing to shamelessly lie about it...or had supporters so willing to believe those lies in spite of the irrefutable, undeniable facts.

It's a phenomenon that will be studied by sociologists and historians for generations to come.

The sad part, though, is that these massive scandals that Trump and his team (including Cohen) worked so hard to hide, have all now come out - and IT DOESN'T MATTER! His supporters don't even care!

It's hard to imagine any other politician being able to weather such villainous behavior - but Trump has. Or at least, he has up to now. How much longer depends on us.

Disloyal: A Memoir: The True Story of the Former Personal Attorney to President Donald J. Trump by Michael Cohen

“Disloyal: A Memoir” is one of the most devastating books written about President Trump. Former Attorney and Personal Advisor, Michael Cohen was an active participant in Trump’s business world and he provides readers with a compelling expose. This insightful 439-page book includes eighteen chapters and an Appendix of documents and tweets.

Positives:
1. A well-written, compelling book. A page turner.
2. An interesting topic, Trump’s former personal lawyer of many years reveals the many secrets he kept on behalf of Donald J. Trump.
3. Makes perfectly clear what this book is all about. “Apart from his wife and children, I knew Trump better than anyone else did. In some ways, I knew him better than even his family did, because I bore witness to the real man, in strip clubs, shady business meetings, and in the unguarded moments when he revealed who he really was: a cheat, a liar, a fraud, a bully, a racist, a predator, a con man.”
4. Cohen’s book is one of the most revealing written about Trump. “Trump has no true friends. He has lived his entire life avoiding and evading taking responsibility for his actions. He crushed or cheated all who stood in his way, but I know where the skeletons are buried because I was the one who buried them.”
5. The mindset of Trump. “He projects his own sins and crimes onto others, partly to distract and confuse, but mostly because he thinks everyone is as corrupt and shameless and ruthless as he is; a poisonous mindset I know all too well. Whoever follows Trump into the White House, if the President doesn’t manage to make himself the leader for life, as he has started to joke about—and Trump never actually jokes—will discover a tangle of frauds and scams and lawlessness. Trump and his minions will do anything to cover up that reality, and I mean anything.”
6. A lot of the revelations make sense with Trump’s current behavior. “I would come to understand that questions of right and wrong didn’t matter to Trump in the slightest—all that counted to him, and then to me, was winning and displaying blind loyalty.”
7. What matters most to Trump. “Trump viewed any representation of his name, brand, properties, or the products he endorsed to be a matter of the highest importance.”
8. Racism. “The truth was simple, as I would come to learn: the Trumps were actually racist, scheming to keep African Americans out of their rental properties.”
9. Provides insights into his own upbringing. “The things I learned at the El Caribe were loyalty, friendship, and omerta—or the mafia code to keep your mouth shut.”
10. The truth of why he wanted Trump to be President. “The real real truth about why I wanted Trump to be president was because I wanted the power that he would bring to me. I wanted to be able to crush my enemies and rule the world.”
11. The path to power. “This is a little-appreciated fact about his path to power. He screams about fake news and reporters being the enemies of the people, like a tin-pot dictator, but the truth was that the media’s psychotic fascination with Trump was one of the biggest—maybe the biggest—cause for his rise to power.”
12. Trump’s mocking of the evangelicals revealed. ““Can you believe that bullcrap?” Trump said, with incredulity, referring to the ritual and the evangelicals. “Can you believe people believe that bullcrap?””
13. Trump’s lack of morality. “Scores of small contractors have had to sue Trump over the years to try to get justice against a billionaire who has absolutely no compunction about screwing the little guy.”
14. The story of how Trump fixed a poll. “The two prime and coequal imperatives of the company were to protect Trump, usually from himself, and to feed his insatiable ego.”
15. How did Trump’s presidency came to be, revealed. “Donald Trump’s presidency is a product of the free press. Not free as in freedom of expression, I mean free as unpaid for. Rallies broadcast live, tweets, press conferences, idiotic interviews, 24-7 wall-to-wall coverage, all without spending a penny. The free press gave America Trump. Right, left, moderate, tabloid, broadsheet, television, radio, Internet, Facebook—that is who elected Trump and might well elect him again.”
16. Narcissism confirmed. “No one ever tells Trump the truth about his behavior and beliefs, or the consequences of his conduct and ignorance and arrogance, in business or in his personal life and now in politics. Trump truly is the boy in the bubble, impervious to the thoughts and feelings or others, entirely and utterly focused on his own desires and ambitions.”
17. Trump the con man. “To Trump, his voters are his audience, his chumps, his patsies, his base. Guns, criminalizing abortion—Trump took up those conservative positions not because he believed in them but because they were his path to power. That was what I meant when I told Congress that Trump is a con man.”
18. The art of projection revealed. “If Trump claimed you cheated or lied or stole, you could be sure that he’d done those things himself; it was almost as if he had a compulsion to confess to his terrible actions by way of accusation.”
19. Taxes? “If Trump could screw a law firm, or a paint vendor, or a salesperson, he’d do it almost as a matter of principle. It was like paying taxes: that was only for the little people.”
20. Trump the President. “Next, Trump never, ever prepared or studied or planned, instead trusting his instincts, a practice that seemed certifiably insane to me.”
21. Photos and supporting documents provided.

Negatives:
1. The book was written clearly out of revenge but I find it to be compelling and truthful.
2. Did Cohen really lose his moral compass?
3. Lacks a timeline that would have added value.
4. Not as many surprises as the public may have wanted but what’s here is good.
5. There is a sleaze factor associated with this book.
6. I sensed it was rushed. The latter chapters don’t have as much substance as the earlier chapters. It might also have to do with his lack of access at that point.

In summary, one of the best books about Trump because of the personal access that Michael Cohen had as his personal lawyer of more than ten years. There are many interesting stories covered in this book including the well known Stormy Daniels one and others not quite well as known as how Trump fixed a poll. I’m giving this book a solid four to 4 and a half stars stars. I highly recommend it!
