Fire companies’ West End Carnival continues through Saturday

West End, Polk, Kunkletown and Blue Ridge Hook & Ladder fire companies will host the West End Carnival through Saturday at the fairgrounds in Gilbert.

Gates open at 6 p.m. each day and close at 9 p.m.

“We hope people will come out to enjoy the food, rides, games and vendors. This is an opportunity for the fire companies to raise some money,” said Jeff Weiss, president of the West End Fire Company.

There is no admission cost, but fire company volunteers will accept donations as they direct traffic and park the cars. Proceeds from the carnival will help the four fire companies.

“We have a good number of fire department members coming out to help,” Weiss said.

“There will be rides for kids and adults.”

Food options include hamburgers, hot dogs, pizza, steak sandwiches, funnel cake, Elephant Ears, ice cream and drinks.

Benches and picnic tables will be set up throughout the carnival area.

Unlike previous festivals and carnivals at the fairgrounds, there will not be fireworks, entertainment or alcoholic beverages at this one.

Because COVID-19 restrictions have been lifted, mask-wearing and social distancing will be up to the individual’s discretion.

“I think people are ready to get out and have some fun,” Weiss said.
