Over the past couple of years, more and more celebs have felt comfortable with coming out as non-binary and changing their pronouns to they/them. The world of the rich and famous is has certainly become more accepting over the past decade however there is still a long way to go.

Today, we're taking a look at some of the most famous stars who have announced that they would like to be referred to as they/them. From former Disney Channel star Demi Lovato to British musician Sam Smith — keep on scrolling to see just which celebs openly spoke about their identity!

10 Demi Lovato

Kicking the list off is former Disney Channel star, Demi Lovato. This year the 28-year-old musician came out as non-binary with a statement on Twitter that said:

"Today is a day I'm so happy to share more of my life with you all — I am proud to let you know that I identify as non-binary & will officially be changing my pronouns to they/them moving forward."

9 Sam Smith

Next on the list is British musician Sam Smith. The talented singer changed their pronouns to they/them in 2019 and they announced it in an Instagram post. Here's what Sam said:

"Today is a good day so here goes. I’ve decided I am changing my pronouns to they/them after a lifetime of being at war with my gender I’ve decided to embrace myself for who I am, inside and out. I’m so excited and privileged to be surrounded by people that support me in this decision but I’ve been very nervous about announcing this because I care too much about what people think."

8 Amandla Stenberg

Let's move on to actor Amandla Stenberg. In 2016 the Hollywood star — who has always been very open about their gender identity — responded to a fan on Tumblr about their preferred pronouns. Here's what Amandla said:

"I honestly don’t know… I mean they/them makes me feel comfortable but I know that the media and the general populace that follows me will critique it/not understand which makes me feel sad and almost more uncomfortable."

7 Nico Tortorella

Younger star Nico Tortorella is next. The actor has been vocal about using non-binary pronouns for himself and people in his life who also identify as non-binary. Here's what the star said on Instagram:

"I have started playing with using they/them pronouns for myself and for anyone I can when it’s appropriate. We are all multidimensional dynamic creatures and as much as I understand the spectrum, the less I believe in the binary of gender, the more liberated I myself am becoming."

6 Indya Moore

Next on the list is Indya Moore who is best known for playing a trans woman named Angel on the drama show Pose. Here's what Indya said about being non-binary on Twitter:

"I'm non-binary, femme, Agender feels fitting too. My pronouns: they/them/theirs. I correct people often. At times they ignore me & I tolerate it to avoid conflict/irritation but it's upsetting to feel like I'm 'too much' in a world that takes so much from trans people constantly."

5 Halsey

An artist who he is happy wither she/they pronouns is musician Halsey. This year the artist changed their pronouns to she/they on social media and here is what she had to say about the change:

"For those asking RE: my updated IG bio, I am happy with either pronouns. The inclusion of 'they' in addition to 'she' feels most authentic to me. If you know me at all, you know what it means to me to express this outwardly. Thanks for being the best."

4 Lachlan Watson

Let's move on to Chilling Adventures of Sabrina star Lachlan Watson. The actor rose to fame playing a playing transgender teenager Theo/Susie Putnam on the show and in real life they identify as non-binary.

The actor loved portraying a character whose story they identified with. Here's what Lachlan revealed to Teen Vogue:

"I think that’s been very nice to be able to almost tell my own story through Susie a little bit."

3 Asia Kate Dillon

Next on the list is actor Asia Kate Dillon who is also openly non-binary. They rose to fame for their portrayal of Taylor Mason on the drama Billions — and here is what they said about their character:

"Non-binary is a term used by some people, myself included, who feel that their gender identity falls outside the traditional boxes of man or woman. When I got to the script for 'Billions' and the character breakdown for Taylor Mason, the character that I play, said female and non-binary, a little light bulb went off in my head. ... I did a little bit of research and discovered that female is an assigned sex and non-binary is in reference to gender identity and those are two different things. It finally helped me put language to a feeling that I'd had my entire life."

2 Tom Phelan

Another celebrity that prefers using the pronouns they/them is The Fosters star Tom Phelan. The non-binary actor played a transgender teen on the drama show and in an interview with Vice Life they revealed that the pronouns they/them are what they would like to be referred by.

1 Liv Hewson

And finally, wrapping the list up is actor Liv Hewson who is best known for starring in the Netflix horror-comedy Santa Clarita Diet. The Australian star prefers using the pronouns they/them and here is what they revealed about in an interview with A Beautiful Perspective:

"I had no idea how I was going to be open about it professionally. For ages it seemed like a possibility so out of reach, it never really crossed my mind."
