[TC E3] True Colors and Larping [TC E3] True Colors and Larping
Discussion

Hi I haven’t played any life is strange games, I started with true colors because I didn’t know a LIS 2 existed and I got spoiled for the ending of 1 ( also looks too much like angsty teen drama). I went in with the expectation that it was gonna suck, but I kind of wanted to like it ( don’t ask me I was confused too), however when I started playing I didn’t mind it, it was kind of corny and awkward but it was self aware and didn’t take itself too seriously. The first painful moment was Alex and Ethan talking nerdy about comic books, made me physically recoil, although I like the rest of the characters (except charlotte, charlotte<Mac( btw if you think Mac looks strange it’s because he straight up looks like a fallout 4 npc)), it honestly kept on bothering me, even in Ethan’s rescue scene. Then the bombshell dropped there was going to be a Larping chapter where Alex has to larp (hate that word), I honestly was dreading it, I thought the game was nice but the pacing and lack of exploring Alex’s grief was bad enough already.

Then it happened and you know what I loved it, I thought it was so charmingly done in a tongue and cheek kind of way, I had a smile on my face the whole time, even with the awkward pauses in between dialogue. I LOVED all the characters they made up, Ryan’s and Steph’s performance was so cute and charming it made me really like them for the first time. I did anger duckie ( best girl) which made me consider restarting, but the whole thing made me appreciate larping and D&D, I don’t really know why I’m posting this i guess I just want my thoughts to be out there , thanks for coming to my Ted talk

I personally love Life is Strange 2 and The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit the most because I hold them dear to my heart. They picked me up and immersed me in a wonderful world when I was going through a hard time. Before the Storm was good too. And the original Life is Strange and True Colors are honorable mentions. I can't wait for the next one to come out! ❤️

[S1] Narratively how would things be different if Max had told Chloe she was coming back? [S1] Narratively how would things be different if Max had told Chloe she was coming back?

Just a question that's been ruminating in my head for the better part of a day figured id share it with you guys. Dunno how "prep schools" like Blackwell operate irl but let's just for the sake building up some dramatic tension that Max gets her acceptance letter on May/June 22, exactly one to two months after Rachel goes missing and her immediate thought contrary to her actual decision is to rather excitedly call or text Chloe. Apart from slight upfront shock on Max's part regarding Chloe's punky transformation, I think it's a safe bet that Chloe wouldn't hesitate to welcome Max back with open arms.

Beyond that though i doubt Chloe would get mixed up with Nathan and wind up confronting him in the bathroom. Max may also not immediately befriend the likes of Kate and Warren since she'd have her best friend back before her first day at Blackwell. The biggest and most obvious change would probably be no storm coming and no rewind powers or could both still happen just under different circumstances?

I really wasn't sure what to expect when playing this game. I usually play a lot of retro games, Zelda, Mario, Final Fight, Streets of Rage, Baldur's gate, Mass Effect, Chrono Trigger, etc. I have played narrative driven games before like Heavy Rain and enjoyed it back in 2010 or so.

LiS is probably one of the few games that ever made me tear up a lot, probably more than any other game has. I'm in my late 30s and I just have to ask, is it weird to care about these young characters? Sometimes I wonder if I should play games like this at my age, or if its meant to be played by a much younger demographic. Regardless, I hope it's not seen as creepy to care about the well being and feelings of younger characters.

To be fair though, I'm only a decade older than Max and Chloe. If they were real they'd be 28 or so. So that doesn't make me feel to weird about playing this series, lol.

I'm now playing before the storm and enjoying it immensely as well. I have LiS 2 and True Colors in my backlog as well. I do enjoy narrative driven games that game you lots of choice. It's more relaxing and a nice change of pace from the usual kind of games that I play. I might get Detroit Become Human at some point as well. I have the Dark Anthology games as well to go through. Loving this genre.

Anyway, I hope it's not seen as creepy or weird to care about younger characters in this game or games in general that's about heavy story telling and deeeeeep emotional story telling.

Peace.
