Aston Villa have re-signed former winger Ashley Young on a free transfer from Inter Milan.

The 35-year-old, who spoke to a number of other clubs including Burnley and Watford, has agreed a one-year deal.

It is 10 years since Young left after a five-year spell in which he made 190 appearances and scored 38 goals.

"It feels amazing to be back, it feels like I've not left," said Young, who helped Inter to the Serie A title last season.

"I'm just delighted to be back, seeing some old faces, being back at the training ground, seeing the facilities and how well they've grown.

"You can see how much the club has evolved since my time and I'm just ready to get down to work now."

Young joined Manchester United from Villa for £17m in 2011 and won the Premier League title during his nine years at Old Trafford.

Young then added the Serie A crown last term as Inter ended their 11-year wait for an Italian championship.

However, the financial uncertainty at the club led to Young turning down two contract offers.

Villa head coach Dean Smith said: "Ashley brings with him a wealth of experience of top-level football both at club and international level and he is joining having just won a league championship in Italy.

"He is a player who can play in a number of positions and, having spoken to him at length, I know he is determined to make a real impact with us this season."
