ARTHUR MITCHELL Obituary
MITCHELL--Arthur.
The School of American Ballet mourns the passing of Arthur Mitchell, a member of our SAB family for almost 70 years. Mr. Mitchell first walked through our doors in 1951 as a youngster of 17, brimming with energy, resilience and potential. His subsequent history-making accomplishments as a member of New York City Ballet and as the founding artistic director of Dance Theatre of Harlem make him a true leading light of our illustrious alumni roster. In his golden years, Mr. Mitchell was a frequent visitor to SAB, serving as a teacher, advisor, mentor and member of our Alumni Advisory Committee on Diversity and Inclusion. His caring, friendship, encouragement and wisdom are a gift our faculty, staff and students will forever treasure. Carrie Hinrichs Executive Director Kay Mazzo Chairman of Faculty

Thank you Mr. Mitchell for your courage, stamina, comprehension of self and the importance of knowing your self well and proud enough to display your creative talents. Thank you for desiring to spread your knowledge and talent onto those anxiously awaiting to learn and follow your path. My grand daughter now attends you school and knows who you are. She insisted to see you at the African American Day Parade. Her name is: Sura Anigye Evans... Rest In Peace, Power and Paradise Eternally..
