It is a nice beach but I think it is overrated. They call it a hidden gem but it was overcrowded to be called a hidden gem. The parking isn’t easy and there a lot of dogs.in my opinion there are a lot of beautiful beaches in Santa Barbara that worth visiting.

Waiting to be seated at the Boat House, we explored the beach area. This is a beach that has cans for recycling, trash, and dog waste. The beach also has a designated side for dogs on leashes and with no leashes. Benches are plentiful for sitting, but with strong winds, no one sits too long. Too cold.

We saw lots of different dogs, and people, while waiting. All were interesting, especially the folks in shorts in 57° weather. The seagulls were plentiful - enjoying the wind currents and looking for handouts. This beach in the warmer weather must be packed! Also liked that one could get an accessible wheelchair for wandering on the beach. Regina would love that!

Bathrooms are available and we almost went in there to wait. No wind! But we didn't. I did find an ideal spot to wait, in the sun and out of the wind - behind the restrooms!! Then Niece found secret staircase, next to restaurant, out of wind with stone benches. Wonderful find. Look for it! It’s magical.

Lovely beach! There is not enough parking to service both the restaurant and the beach goers. We waited a while at 2 pm and finally got a park. The restaurant (Boathouse) is delicious. We walked a long time barefoot on the beach and didn't step on any tar or even see any. There were some tide pools and creatures to see at low tide, which was fun. Very pretty beach! Note: way too many dogs.

Great beach. Beautiful sunset views and wide-open spaces to stretch out and have fun. Took my family here for a day at the beach and was not disappointed. Plenty of parking and the walk was not too bad at all compared to other places we've been to. Kids had a blast playing in the water. Numerous people had dogs running on the beach too so if dogs bother you it might not be for you. We don't have dogs but it was fun to watch them run and play in the sand. We even had a sea lion swim by as we played in the surf. We will definitely return when back in the area.

I lived next to this beach for 6 years, and thus here many times per week. From the entrance east is dog friendly. As with all beaches in SB, bring the baby oil to get the tar off your feet at the end of the day. Surfers are here most days.

If you want to spoil your dog in the best way, this is where to go. You will find an off-leash dog park with a beautiful beach. I wasn't there in the summer, so it wasn't crowded. Parking was easy, although I didn't go on a weekend. It's one of the best three dog beaches in California - a wonderful place for dogs and their humans, alike. My dogs had fun chasing sticks into the ocean - safe on the shoreline, but just far enough to get wet and have a blast. Thank you Santa Barbara for allowing the dogs freedom to live their best lives! And thank you to the other dog parents who also kept it clean.

Pit bulls and other dogs are allowed to run free at Arroyo Burro Beach. (The locals call it Hendry's Beach, gentrification even in a name). The only things is that now, with all the pitbulls in shelters here, people are adopting them but ignorant on how to control them. Other foolish dog owners, not necessarily pit bulls (that's just the scariest breed I've seen running far from its owners since its allowed to run unleashed) have no control over their dogs and think that just because it is leash-free that they're entitled to be part of it too. Wrong! You are 100 pounds thinner than your pit, shepherd, whatever, and cannot control it. AND you're too busy on your cell phone. What used to be a beautiful beach where dogs can be dogs is now just a circle of stupid, weak, and negligent dog owners who think every dog has equal rights--they don't if they're vicious and you, the owner, should be on a leash when you endanger other dogs and people on this oasis of a paradise passed.

As Santa Barbara residents, we rarely set foot on East or West Beach, the only stretches of sand that the tourist community regularly visits. Why would we, when we have Arroyo Burro Beach (Hendry's Beach to locals).? From the SB Pier area, drive about ten minutes north along Cliff Drive and you'll find a sheltered cove, and a beach divided by a local creek. Local families are stretched out on the sand on one side, with joggers, walkers and scores of the happiest dogs to you can imagine, running free on the other. Don' t miss it.

hendrys is awesome. For 17.5 years my dog Mr. Petey and I came here. When he was a baby of 4 months he learned to love the smell of the ocean and as a youngster he loved to body surf out to get logs ten times over his size. If you walk down the beach a way, there are few people and often you can see dolphins or whales. I have fond memories and love this beach.

Little one but so inviting to walk around. Enjoy either side, the surfers even if you take your doggie can run around to the beach with out the leash.. On the left side, watch the signs.. Beautifully place to take picture even in a windy day.. Ready to go back 🏖
