The Ramayana is one of the most important epics of Hinduism Itihasas. The tale follows the life of Lord Rama, the prince of Ayodhya in the kingdom of Kosala. For several years, the story of the Ramayana has been narrated by different filmmakers and authors. Plays, movies, books, TV series and games — the audience has seen many versions of the epic. Now, bringing a fresh perspective to the story, Nitesh Tiwari is helming a movie titled Ramayana in 2024.

From speculations about the cast to the audience anticipating what the Nitesh Tiwari film will look like, Ramanyana has been in the news for one thing or another for several years. Given the grandeur of the film, Ramayana is going to be one of the biggest releases and here are all the developments that have taken place till now in 2024.

Ramayana: Cast, release date & other details of the film

Ramayana will be made as a three-part series. The film reportedly went on floors in March. The entire world of this epic has been created by Nitesh Tiwari. The much-awaited announcement for the Ramayana film will take place on 17 April 2024, aligning with the Lord Ram’s birth anniversary. The film is touted to be one of the most technically advanced projects in Indian cinema.

Meet the cast of Ramayana

Ranbir Kapoor will essay the role of Lord Ram in Ramayana and the actor has already started shooting for the film in 2024. Joining him will be Sai Pallavi as Sita. Earlier it was anticipated that Alia Bhatt would be essaying this titular role. Yash will take on the character of Ravana while Amitabh Bachchan will essay the role of Raja Dashrath. The film will also see Sunny Deol as Hanuman, Lara Dutta as Kaikeyi, Sakshi Tanwar as Ravan’s wife Mandodari and Rakul Preet Singh as Shurpanakha.

When is the film releasing?

Nitesh Tiwari aims to wrap up the shoot before Diwali 2025 and release it around the same time. Some tech rehearsals also took place in Los Angeles in January 2024. The cast will finish the Mumbai schedule in the coming months and later head to London to shoot the Lanka portion of Ramayana.

The set of Ramayana

The epic set of the Nitesh Tiwari directorial has been designed by Oscar-winning VFX company, DNEG. The team is also backing the film and introducing a new technology of filmmaking. From 3D scans to look tests, several test runs of the shoot have been conducted with the three leads.

What will the film be about?

Nitesh aims to retell Ramayana to the audience. A source close to the development revealed that Ramayana: Part One will focus on building the story around Lord Ram and Sita with the character introduction of Hanuman. Part 2 will narrate the arc of Raavan’s character.
