David Warner and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have had one of the worst break-ups in Indian Premier League (IPL) history in 2021 as Warner was not only sacked from the captaincy but also dropped from the playing XI twice.

However, the events of this year cannot take away from the fact that over the years Warner has been an overwhelming success at SRH. In his time at the franchise, Warner has established himself was one of the greatest overseas players to have ever graced the cash-rich league.

In 2019 when Warner was returning to cricket from a one-year ban due to the sandpaper saga, he spoke about his love for the franchise before the tournament kicked off. In an interview with IndiaToday, Warner called SRH his 'second home.' He said, “From Delhi, I moved to Hyderabad. This is my second home and to come back here to open arms and to be greeted by the fans, some of the passionate and kind words, it means a lot to my family and myself."

"The fans have been fantastic. My team-mates, lots of cuddles and high-fives... it’s been brilliant. It felt like I was at home; I can’t thank them enough for sticking by me and always sending me nice messages," Warner added while speaking about his admiration for the fans.

Warner had joined Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2014 after they purchased him for an amount of ₹5.5 crores. Since then, he has been one of the league's most consistent players having made 500+ runs in every season before 2021. With 4014 runs in 95 matches, he is the franchises' all-time highest run-scorer and has also won the orange cap three times.

Warner also led SRH to their first and only IPL title so far in 2016. Warner-led Sunrisers Hyderabad defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore in a nail-biting final by eight runs to seal the title.
