I actually went to our local drive-in on Friday! It was $12 for two movies. They were showing ET and Jaws for Steven Spielberg weekend. My wife and I loaded up on snacks beforehand (although we supported the venue and got a few things there as well). It was nice to be able to chat a bit with her during the movies. We were able to make fun of the hokey, outdated bits, theorize what was going to happen next, and just do what we wanted.
The place sold out about 2 hours before showtime and we had a very nice night just to ourselves without having to deal with other people.
It was a bit like road tripping but without the need to drive and the places we were going were just in the movies we saw.
Mchenry Outdoor Theatre by chance? I saw that lineup over there.
That's the one!

make that three

Do they still show the dancing milkshakes and hot dogs doing tricks during intermission?
I have been seriously mulling over getting the hot dog as a tattoo. We used to go to McHenry every weekend during my formative years and I have so many great memories.
They definitely do. It was one of the things we laughed about on Friday
Let’s go out to the kitchen !
Yes they definitely do!
A wise man once said "Never get a fucking hot dog for a tattoo"
Hey I used to work at The Liberty Theatre, the same guy that owns the McHenry location. I was supposed to work there every once and a while but the Liberty was recently shut down :(
Just drove by today and saw the lineup! Fun!
Used to go there all the time when I lived nearby. Moved outside of Madison and am even closer to another drive-in

I was thinking the same. Jaws is in my top 3 all time list. For me (and many others), it’s a timeless masterpiece.
We have one of those big portable Bluetooth speakers that we take to the drive in. The sound is great, it tunes into the station and we don’t have to worry about the car battery.
That’s cool! How do you tune it to the station? What speaker is it?
Q: What's E.T. short for?
A: Because he's got little legs.
What did they do about bathrooms?
They had the bathrooms open in the concession stand, but the actual concessions were moved to outdoor carts. I think they also might have had only 1 stall open but I didn't have to go so can't confirm that
Lucky you. My bladder would not last through two movies and probably not even one.
"Theorise what would happen next"? Have you never seen Jaws or ET before?
I realized I literally hadn't seen either movie since I was like 5 or 6. It's been 25 years or so since I had seen them. My wife only could recall seeing parts of both

Just the radio for the time being. They do have speakers but for safety reasons didn't have them available.
I was at one on Saturday and it was the first time I’ve ever done it and I loved it. Me and my wife have decided to make it a regular occurrence
I think you've just sold me on them. I already liked the idea of them but being able to see a movie on a big screen without dealing with other people and their bullshit sounds magical.
We live about an hour from McHenry, I'm so glad they're open and able to show movies. We went to some of the throwback weekends last year. I love this drive in!
What time did you get there? It says they open box office around 6:30, but if there is a huge line of cars they’ll open it up. Do you know what time they actually opened it?
How do they handle the concession stand? My local drive in has huge line up's normally, the area is crammed with people, I can't figure out how they would manage the crowd today and social distancing. The rumour is that they are opening soon, I can't fathom how.
PLEASE BRING BACK ALL DRIVE INS!
Some of my favorite childhood memories is at the drive in.. lol My parents made a “wise” decision to take me with rm to see Valley Girl when i was a kid. First time seeing boobs before my mom Made me turn my head. It was too late though lol
Mine was Titanic.
Nice.
No wonder they missed the iceberg.
Mine was booty call.....
That movie is so dumb and I live it.
Terminator for me. Boy was that movie a rollercoaster of emotions.
Mine was Total Recall. I'm still trying to find a 3 titted woman
Same :(
Let me guess you’re age...48
Actually 23, I was about 8 when my dad showed me it. I was obsessed for years afterwards.
Wow you went old school.

Pool scene, Fast Times at Ridgemont High.
Mallrats for me. I was .....confused, to say the least.
It's a schooner
No, dummy. It’s a sailboat!
A schooner is a sailboat
Mine was Under Siege.
I don't remember my first boobs, but Leslie Mann wearing a wet shirt in George of The Jungle made me realize I was bisexual.
Mine too. I was really intrested in the titanic as a kid and was allowed to go i looked away at the scene. I didnt
Same here. Love the drive in. So cozy, bring drinks and food. Great time. My first movie ever was the drive in. My parents couldn't find a sitter so they stuck my sister and me in the back of my dad's Datsun hatchback with the promise we wouldn't watch. I watched all of An American Werewolf in London. Started my love of horror at age 6
Generally agree. But those bathrooms need to be closed, and that won't fly with most families.
Would it be safer to have people pissing on the side of the building? Because that's how you get people pissing on the side of the building.
I would be REALLY happy if there was a drive in near where we lived and would totally arrange for a date night with the husband. We might not even "watch" the movie :)
The town I grew up in had a drive in a few miles away, in an area that was otherwise corn fields. Like most drive ins, it went out of business, but then was bought and had a few more years life as the only porn drive in I ever heard of. I don't know if those will make a comeback or not, but nobody minded when cars were bouncing, so I thought it made a lot more sense than showing porn in a regular indoor theater.
Apache Drive-In Theatre in Texas I think is still one.
