The Basketball Tournament 2021: Men of Mackey, Columbus Regional Schedule

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Men of Mackey defeated the Ballinteers 83-74 Friday in the first round of The Basketball Tournament. 

Purdue's alumni team was led by former UIC and Purdue forward Kelsey Barlow, who registered a team-high 19 points. He was one of five members from the Men of Mackey to score in double figures. 

On the defensive end, the Boilermakers' alumni allowed just 29 points in the first half of play. 

"We were really good defensively, I thought," Men of Mackey coach Ryne Smith said after the game. "I though our ball screen defense and our rotations were really good." 

In his TBT debut, former Purdue star Robbie Hummel scored 13 points, good for second on the team, and tied with Lewis Jackson for a team-high six rebounds. 

"I think I did OK," Hummel said. "There are some things that I certainly wish I had back." 

The Men of Mackey bolted to a 12-point first quarter lead and led by as much as 19 points to earn a victory over the Tennessee alumni squad. Josh Selby posted a game-high 20 points for the Ballinteers to help keep the game close.

The Men of Mackey will move on to play the No. 1-seed, Carmen's Crew, on Sunday at 5 p.m. ET. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN. 

Two teams will advance from each of The Basketball Tournament’s four regionals to compete during Championship Weekend in Dayton, Ohio at UD Arena. Quarterfinals games will be played on July 31, and the semifinals will be on Aug. 1.
