Peaky Blinders actress Anya Taylor-Joy was left "devastated" after watching herself in The Witch.

Released to critical adoration six years ago, director Robert Eggers's period horror catapulted the youngster into the big leagues: The Northman, Split and The Queen's Gambit are just some of her career highlights since. Still, her performance as Thomasin is far from her favourite.

Catching up with The Hollywood Reporter, Taylor-Joy was asked what it was like seeing herself up on the big screen for the very first time in The Witch, her debut feature film.

"Rob showed us the film maybe two hours before the audience screening, and I was devastated. I thought I'd never work again, I still get shivers thinking about it.

"It was just the worst feeling of, 'I have let down the people I love most in the world. I didn't do it right.' And I'm quite verbose, I like to talk, I like to communicate. I did not talk, I just cried," she admitted.

"I couldn't handle seeing my face that large."

Luckily for us, her performance was adored by audiences and critics and did not end her career. The star stuck with it, and now we have potentially decades of amazing performances to look forward to from her.

Next, we will see Taylor-Joy in Edgar Wright's Last Night in Soho opposite Doctor Who's Matt Smith.

Peaky Blinders season 6 is currently filming and will air on BBC One. Obsessed With… Peaky Blinders hosted by Digital Spy's Editor, Laurence Mozafari – is available to listen to on BBC Sounds.
