While the offered a great step up in power and looks—slotting between the standard rear-drive 911 and the Turbo, thanks to its wide-bodied look and 408-bhp 3.8-liter upgrade over the stock 345-bhp 3.6-liter flat-6—it was only a matter of time before the German automaker would offer an all-wheel-drive version.

That time is now. The 2012 Carrera 4 GTS is available in coupe and cabriolet body styles and shares the look of the rear-drive version. The car can be equipped with either a 6-speed manual or 7-speed dual-clutch PDK transmission. Top speed has been increased to 187 mph in manual cars, 186 with the PDK. The factory says 0–60 mph is achieved in 4.0 sec. with the quicker-shifting PDK system. The 911 Carrera 4 GTS is expected to go on sale this fall with an MSRP of $120,100, a $9900 premium over the standard GTS.
