Every Detail You Missed in the Dramatic 'Virgin River' Finale

Virgin River, you've done it again.

Fans should've learned to expect the unexpected from the Netflix drama after Jack was shot in season 2, but nothing could have prepared us for what happened during season 3. Across ten episodes, the residents of Virgin River were faced with house fires, hurricanes, breakups, make-ups, custody battles, car accidents, funerals, proposals, and more. (Yes, somehow there was more!)

If you thought all of that would be resolved by the time the finale rolled around, then you don't know Virgin River. The final episode left everyone with their jaws on the floor and a lot of questions running through their heads. Still trying to make sense of it all? You're not alone. Read on for a breakdown of every dramatic detail from the Virgin River season 3 finale.

Did Brady shoot Jack?

It certainly appears that way. Or does it? Brady (Ben Hollingsworth) admitted to Jack (Martin Henderson) and Brie (Zibby Allen) that he was at the bar the night of the shooting, but swore he didn't pull the trigger. His story actually sounds convincing—until Mike (Marco Grazzini), a former Marine and the detective on the case, finds a gun shoved under the seat in Brady's car. While he's being arrested on the scene, Brady starts screaming that Mike planted the weapon there to frame him. Could that have anything to do with what happened between them in Iraq? It almost sounds crazy enough to be true.

What happens to Preacher?

Ever since Paige (Lexa Doig) left, Preacher (John Middleton) has dedicated his life to protecting her son. (With her abusive ex-husband's evil twin brother running around town, can you blame him?) But all of his efforts fell apart when a so-called friend of Paige sets Preacher up. She claims that Paige is thinking of turning herself in, so Preacher insists on going to see her where she's allegedly hiding in the woods outside of town. On the way, they stop to get food—and it's all downhill from there.

We can only assume that Paige's "friend" drugged Preacher's soda, because he passes out in the woods and she leaves him there. Back in Virgin River, the aforementioned evil twin is waiting in Preacher's living room when Christopher (Chase Petriw) and Connie (Nicola Cavendish) get home. Someone call 911!

Does Doc know about his grandson?

Virgin River fans were just as shocked as Jo Ellen (Gwynyth Walsh) when a mysterious young man turned up at the inn claiming that Vernon Mullins is his grandfather. Doc (Tim Matheson) and Hope (Annette O'Toole) never had kids, and they've been together forever—except when they weren't. Remember that whole affair with Charmaine's (Lauren Hammersley) mother that happened about 20 years ago? That could explain the 20-something-looking boy who just rolled into town. We do see a resemblance...

Will Hope wake up?

Throughout season 3, everyone was wondering the same thing: Where is Hope? Then when she was finally about to return to Virgin River, she got into an awful car accident. The crash left Hope with a serious brain injury, so she was put into a medically-induced coma. After the surgeon on her case reveals that she also developed an infection, Doc seems to lose all...well...hope. Still, it seems unlikely that she won't wake up. After all, someone has to deal with the fallout of Doc's mysterious grandson!

Is Brie going to leave Virgin River?

Although she's new to the Virgin River cast, Brie has quickly become one of the show's most intriguing characters. Other than a painful revelation about an ex-boyfriend, we still don't know much about Brie's past. She told Mel (Alexandra Breckenridge) that she had been thinking about leaving Virgin River for a fresh start, but it seems like her story is just getting started. Plus, the fact that she's an unemployed attorney has us thinking: Would she ever represent Brady in the case against her own brother, Jack? It wouldn't be the first time Virgin River left us dumbfounded.

Who is the father of Mel's baby?

While Jack and Mel have had a rocky relationship, they always work things out in the end. After their brief breakup, Jack swore he was committed to her forever—and even tried to prove it with a proposal. But Mel stopped him mid-kneel and revealed a major truth: She's pregnant.

Jack is thrilled, until the love of his life tells him that she doesn't know if he's the father. (Yikes!) The season ends there, so we can only assume that Jack's mind is running to Mel's time in Los Angeles during their breakup and wondering if she slept with someone else. Because who would ever guess that their girlfriend is actually having the baby of their late husband? Virgin River fans, that's who! Now, if only we knew when season 4 was going to be released...
