87% Tomatometer 23 Reviews 67% Audience Score Fewer than 50 Ratings A limited series about the mysterious blonde bombshell who takes over Los Angeles billboards in the mid-1980s, planting the seed for famous-for-being-famous influencer culture. Loosely inspired by the 2017 Hollywood Reporter article that revealed Angelyne's secret past as a Polish-born daughter of Holocaust survivors, the story focuses on fame and the elusive nature of truth itself. The all-star cast includes Emmy Rossum as the titular character, Alex Karpovsky, Lukas Gage, Martin Freeman, Hamish Linklater, David Krumholtz and Michael Angarano. Read More Read Less

Kristen Lopez indieWire Rossum is utterly captivating, finding nuance in a character who’s an icon — even if it’s only in her mind. Rated: B Jun 16, 2022 Full Review James Poniewozik New York Times Maybe Angelyne is an idol made of plastic. But what’s so great about authenticity? May 30, 2022 Full Review Lauren Sarner New York Post This is a vibrant series that’s more interested in the stories that people tell themselves than it is in cold hard facts. And in its own way, that’s the most truthful way to look at someone’s life. May 21, 2022 Full Review Jenny Nixon Common Sense Media Tacky yet fun faux-docu has language, lots of cleavage. Rated: 3/5 Sep 4, 2022 Full Review Coleman Spilde The Daily Beast Like the Los Angeles billboard icon at the heart of it, the unconventional bioseries is whatever you want it to be—and Emmy Rossum is acting her heart off... Ian F "Angelyne" offers a flashy and intriguing glimpse into the life of the real-life Los Angeles icon known for her billboard presence. Embracing a neon-soaked aesthetic, the series navigates themes of identity and fame, anchored by a standout performance from Emmy Rossum. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 11/28/23 Full Review lilac m Emmy rossum is so great at everything she does. I had never heard of this Angelyne lady, but i definitely wanna search her on youtube now. Great job Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/09/22 Full Review Lefty L this was utterly useless Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 10/17/22 Full Review Angel Nicolas B Equal parts fun and tragic, Emmy Rossum is hilarious. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/17/22 Full Review frankie d Wow. This turned out to be much better than I had originally thought. The first episode I found underwhelming, but once I got into the second it took off and I found myself very much enjoying it. Though the show was sparked by a Hollywood Reporter article from 2017 revealing Angelyne's true identity- the show's narrative seems solely the one in which Angelyne herself approves- contradicted many times by her and other participants involved, who tell their version of events- beyond the exaggerations, and even the facts. One of the most compelling aspects is the inclusion of actor Martin Freeman, playing Harold Wallach- who became Agelyne's patron, providing all those billboards, while his family is driven crazy by Angelyne's manipulative drive to make her self as famous as can possibly be without doing anything of note besides being famous. Freeman grounds the series with his effortless charm, and though Emmy Rossum lacks Angelyne's coquettish sexuality and buxom flamboyance- she does deliver a solid portrait of a woman driven by her own fantasies and talents to make certain the world knows her name, no matter the perception. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Sky H So boring. Nothing ever happens. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 07/03/22 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
