Welcome | AC100

Welcome

The San Gabriel back country retains much of the natural beauty, if not the primitive wilderness of yesteryear... Thanks largely to the foresight and capable supervision of the U.S. Forest Service and hundreds of volunteers. Picnic areas and campgrounds have been constructed with minimum displacement of the natural setting.

Those desiring to see this primitive wilderness in a single day are invited to participate in the Angeles Crest 100 Mile Endurance Run.

The 2021 race date has been canceled due the Bobcat fire and coronavirus (COVID-19). The 2022 race date is on August 6, 2022 at 5:00:00 AM/PST.

IMPORTANT NOTICES

2021 ANGELES CREST 100-MILE RUN & ANGELES NATIONAL FOREST TRAIL RACE CANCELLATION NOTICES

This Notification is to inform everyone that both the 2021 Angeles Crest 100-Mile Endurance Run and the 2021 Angeles National Forest Trail Race have been CANCELLED.

After discussions with The United States Forest Service / San Gabriel Mountains Monument District, Race Directors, Ken Hamada and Gary Hilliard have been told: Forest Order 05-01-21-03 has closed a large area of the Angeles National Forest until April 1, 2022, due to the impacts and hazards from the Bobcat Fire. Therefore the Forest/Monument will not be issuing any Special Use Permits this year within the closed area.

Comments from the Race Directors on the current conditions:

In addition to the current Bobcat Fire Closure Order. Coronavirus COVID19 Restrictions in Los Angeles County have complicated everyone’s lives even further. Currently, the U.S. Forest Service continues to work virtually like all Government Agencies. Only Forest Service Essential Workers (Fire and Law Enforcement) are reporting to their job locations. All the Angeles National Forest Facilities are currently closed, with no immediate scheduled to re-open. Los Angeles County Agencies also continue to work remotely.

At this time, Forest Order 05-01-21-03 has NO ENTRY Markings at all access points along the Bobcat Fire perimeter. Most of both AC100 and ANFTR trails and access points are in the burn area. Additionally, because of the current L.A. County COVID19 Restrictions, there are NO Volunteer activities allowed in the Angeles National Forest, this includes the areas outside of the Bobcat Fire Area.  The Forest Service currently is at “Phase 0”, which does not allow any volunteering anywhere in the Angeles National Forest.

All 2021 Runners (including Runners on the Wait List), for both the AC 100-Mile Race and the ANF Trail Race, will be rolled over to the 2022 Races.  Any Trailwork Requirement that was completed prior to the race cancellations will also be credited forward to the 2022 Races.

The physical problem at hand is the severity of the Bobcat Fire is keeping the Forest Service from safely reopening the forest. Because of COVID19 and the expansive footprint of the fire, the forest service has determined the Burn Area to be unsafe for entry, and that includes any trail work. We never want runners to be at risk during training runs, trail work, or the races. We also all need COVID19 immunizations to continue for everyone's safety.

We look forward to seeing everyone at the 2022 Angeles Crest 100-Mile Endurance Run on August 6-7, 2022, and the Angeles National Forest Trail Race on July 9, 2022.

We truly appreciate your understanding of these current Forest Service Restrictions and Closures.
