Following his long stint on Melrose Place, what became of actor Andrew Shue and what is he doing now? It seems Shue was destined to give acting a try, with his older sister being actress Elizabeth Shue (Adventures in Babysitting, The Boys, etc). Andrew Shue's earliest roles included uncredited parts in many of his sister's movies, including the original Karate Kid movie and 1985's Vision Quest (which also marked Madonna's film debut). After assorted roles in films like American Shaolin, Shue landed the role of Billy Campbell in the classic soap opera Melrose Place.

The show ran for seven series in total, with Shue being one of the few Melrose Place cast members to stay for every season. Shue's aspiring writer Billy went through a fair amount of drama during his time in the titular apartment building, including multiple failed romances and a move into the advertising world. It was only fitting for such a '90s-era show to come to a close in 1999, and it was canceled thanks to rising production costs and dipping ratings. In the final season, Billy got a happy ending as he moved to Rome with Alyssa Milano's Melrose Place character Jennifer.

Andrew Shue's Biggest Acting Roles After Melrose Place

Andrew Shue has largely stepped away from acting

In total, Andrew Shue appeared in almost 200 episodes of Melrose Place. Being a regular on a soap opera is a hefty commitment for any actor, and doesn't leave time for much else. That may account for his scarcity of credits during his time on the series. Outside a guest appearance on The Wonder Years in 1992, Shue's only credits outside of his hit soap were TV movie Gulf City and a supporting role in Francis Ford Coppola's movie The Rainmaker. The latter role was a major departure for the star, as he played the abusive husband of Claire Danes' character, and featured in a brutal fight sequence with Matt Damon.

The Rainmaker proved he could play darker roles, but following the end of Melrose Place, Shue essentially retired from acting. He briefly returned to star in 2007 sports drama Gracie, which follows a teenage girl who wants to play in an all-boys soccer team during the 1970s. Gracie was a real family affair for the Shue family, as it's loosely based on Elizabeth Shue's own childhood experiences. Her husband Davis Guggenheim directed it while the film also paid tribute to the Shue siblings' late brother William.

Andrew Shue himself played the role of Coach Clark in Gracie, in addition to co-writing the story alongside Guggenheim and serving as co-producer with his sister. Shue's last acting credit was an appearance in British soccer movie Goal III in 2009. In an interview with NJ.com in 2009, Shue reflected on his decision to quit acting entirely.

I didn't like having to promote myself and to constantly make myself interesting to people.

He also confirmed that after completing Gracie, he had zero plans to resume his former career. Thus far, he's kept to that vow and when Melrose Place was revived in 2009 Shue was noticeably absent, despite former cast members like Heather Locklear and Laura Leighton making guest appearances. The revival itself only ran for one season before being canceled by The CW in 2010 due to low ratings. In recent years, Shue has guested on several shows, including The View and Nick Cannon.

Andrew Shue's Short-Lived Soccer Career

Shue is a lifelong soccer player and fan

Shue's interest in a soccer movie shouldn't surprise those who followed his career during the '90s. Growing up, Shue and his siblings loved the sport and he was a Regional All-America soccer player, before going on to play for Queen's Park FC while studying in Scotland. Shue later moved to Zimbabwe to teach and went on to play soccer for the Bulawayo Highlanders. He was noted for being the only white player in the Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League at that time, and during his stint with the club, they won Cup of Zimbabwe and Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League titles.

In the middle of his run on Melrose Place, Shue joined L.A. Galaxy, Los Angeles' first professional football team. Since soccer wasn't terribly popular in the U.S. during this period, Shue's fame brought some welcome attention to both the sport and the club itself. Shue being part of L.A. Galaxy was considered something of a marketing gimmick at the time, which included getting the team on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. That said, Shue's experience with soccer meant he wasn't half bad on the pitch. The team took much of his time outside of Melrose Place, and he made five pro soccer appearances in total.

Andrew Shue's Business Ventures & Entrepreneurship

Shue has been busy since his acting retirement

After stepping back from acting, Shue has become a real entrepreneur. During the early 2000s, Shue co-founded CafeMedia with best friend Michael Sanchez, which led to the creation of brands like CMI Marketing. Shue was initially inspired to create a social network for new mothers after seeing how his first wife Jennifer Hageney formed a support network of her own once they had children. The website ClubMom later morphed into CafeMom, which offered blog posts, shopping reward programs and more. CafeMom quickly attracted millions in traffic and is still running to this day.

Shue also co-hosted podcast Mad Life with his second wife Amy Robach and her mother, Joanie. This parenting podcast was a CafeMom production, and while Shue and Robach were initially set to co-host it after the latter became busy, her mother and comedian Chuck Nice joined Shue on the show instead. Robach and Shue later co-wrote a children's book called Better Together, which was inspired by their experience as parents of a blended family. In the early '90s, Shue and Sanchez also formed the charitable non-profit DoSomething, which aimed to encourage young people to make positive social changes in the world around them through charity or campaigning.

Shue found himself in the news when it emerged his spouse Amy Robach was in a romantic relationship with her Good Morning America co-host T.J. Holmes in December 2022. The duo were later fired by ABC News over the relationship, but while the media had a field day with the story, by all accounts, Shue and Robach had separated before she began seeing Holmes. Amy Robach and Andrew Shue finalized their divorce in early 2023.
