Characters Portrayed: Spider-Man/Peter Parker

Andrew Russell Garfield (born on August 20th, 1983) is an English-American actor who portrayed Peter Parker/Spider-Man in the reboot franchise of The Amazing Spider-Man, and The Amazing Spider-Man 2. He also signed on to reprise his role in a third film and possibly a fourth and final film, however the films were both cancelled. He reprised his role in the Marvel Studios production Spider-Man: No Way Home and archive footage of him was used in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.

Behind the scenes[]

Garfield wanted to act so much like Spider-Man that, after being assigned the role, he studied spiders' movements, trying to imitate them as best he could to fit, saying Parker is "a boy/spider in terms of how he moves, and not just in the suit." On portraying the web-slinger, Garfield said, "I see it as a massive challenge in many ways... to make it authentic. To make the character live and breathe in a new way. The audience already has a relationship with many different incarnations of the character. I do, as well. I'm probably going to be the guy in the movie theater shouting abuse at myself. But, I have to let that go. No turning back and I wouldn't want to." When first wearing the (newly made) Spider-Man costume, Garfield admitted to shedding tears and trying to imagine "a better actor in the suit". His co-star, Emma Stone (who portrayed his on-screen girlfriend Gwen Stacy) is also his real-life girlfriend.
