Superstore emerged as a quiet hit over the past few years, combining relevant social issues with killer comedy to make for a hilarious, yet important, sitcom. But now, after six years on air, the show is coming to an end. Through it all, fans have come to know and love the quirky Superstore staff of Cloud Nine, from the outspoken Justine to the sinister Carol.

But it was bittersweet for Superstore devotees when one of the show’s central characters, Amy (America Ferrera), departed Cloud Nine and the show for good with the episode “California Part 2.” Thankfully, Amy will be making a brief appearance on the series finale tonight.

Here’s what you need to know about Ferrera’s Superstore character and her appearance in the Superstore finale.

WHY DID AMY LEAVE SUPERSTORE?

America Ferrera’s Amy left Superstore to take a new job a Zephra corporate in California. At the time, she had to break off her engagement with Jonah (Ben Feldman). In an interview with Variety, showrunner Gabe Miller explained why the show chose to keep Amy and Jonah on “good terms” at the time of her departure. “We tried to leave the door open; who knows if they’ll ultimately end up together?” Miller said. “But it just felt like the most interesting and real way to tell that story when Amy was leaving.”

WHY IS AMERICA FERRERA BACK AS AMY ON THE SUPERSTORE FINALE?

Ferrera will be back in character as Amy on Superstore tonight for the series finale, but the show isn’t giving away too many details about why she’s coming back. You’ll just have to watch and see! “I expected and hoped that the show would go on after my departure for many, many years,” she told Variety. “So it was definitely coming back sooner than I think any of us imagined. But at the same time, we knew that in the setup of how Amy left, it really lent itself to how she could come back.”
