HOWARD HARRY SCHEUNER

Howard Harry Scheuner, age 89, formerly of Grand Blanc passed away on Jan. 20, 2021, at MediLodge of Alpena after an extended illness. Howard was born in Sanborn Township on Nov. 17, 1931, to the late Carl and Wanda (Marek) Scheuner. Howard lived in Alpena for 53 years and then in the lower Michigan cities of Howell and Grand Blanc. He was an active member of these communities and a business owner in the construction industry. He enjoyed baseball, cooking, gardening, skiing, fishing, golf, and tennis. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Shriners International, and The International Union of Operating Engineers. He supported school and community athletic programs, local media, and the fire and police organizations. Howard worked throughout the upper and lower peninsulas of Michigan on an array of municipal, federal, and private sector projects including installation of water, sewer, and gas utilities, road building, and excavation for malls, parking structures, hospitals, and marinas. He developed numerous residential real estate communities including Island View in Alpena and others in the communities of Howell, Brighton, and Fenton, Michigan.

SUSAN MARIE KINDT BROWN

Susan Marie Kindt Brown, of Belton, South Carolina, passed away suddenly on June 26, 2021. She was born in Alpena on July 20, 1963. Graduated with honors from AHS in 1981. Played softball in Alpena and went on to win a championship. She married Gary Brown in May of 1993. She worked as a quality control specialist for Eaton Industries for 20+ years in Grand Rapids and took a transfer to South Carolina as she would say, “to get away from the Michigan winters.”

CHARLES R. SMITH

Charles R. Smith, 76, of Harrisville, passed away Sunday, June 27, 2021 at his home. Born Aug. 25, 1944 to Bethel and Denetta (Schultz) Smith in Alpena, he was a lifelong resident of the area. On Nov. 22, 1985 he married Krisha Wyns in Alpena. Chuck served in the U.S. Army and retired as a Sergeant. He worked for RPI in Oscoda, retiring after over 20 years. He had a passion for the military and loved sharing stories of his time in the service. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping, and playing cornhole and euchre. He was a proud father and grandfather and his face would light up when one of his kids or grandkids would enter the room.

Bryan Pete Banycky, 47, of Otsego, formerly of Ossineke passed away March 21, 2021, at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan due to illness. Bryan was born on May 23, 1973 in Alpena, Michigan to Peter and Judith Banycky. He enjoyed many sports throughout high school, football with the Alpena Raiders and running track. WILLIAM ‘BILLY O’ JOHN OZANICH

William “Billy O” John Ozanich, 72, of Alpena passed away Thursday, June 24, 2021, at home. William was born on Nov. 10, 1948, in Manistique, Michigan to the late John and Lorraine (Barker) Ozanich. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with Three Bronze Service Stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 Device, Army Commendation Medal with V Device, Combat Infantryman Badge, Bronze Star Medal with V Device, and First Oak Leaf Cluster. William was a lifetime member of the Manistique V.F.W. Post 4420. On April 14, 2009, he married Lisa Mulka.

On April 30, 1973, he married Constance Pringle. Thomas worked at Walmart for the past 20 years. He enjoyed collecting antiques, auctions, hunting, fishing, and going to camp.

JAMES H. STEWART

James H. Stewart, 90, of Ossineke passed away Sunday, June 27, 2021, at his home surrounded by his family. Jim was born in Saginaw on Aug. 1, 1930, to Malcolm and Marion (Strachan) Stewart. He was honorably discharged as an Airdale of the U.S. Navy, Korean War, 1954. He graduated from Eastern Michigan University. On June 27, 1959, he married Lynne Simons. Jim was part owner of the Abbe Insurance Agency and had a life career in the insurance industry. He retired in 1992, moved to Ossineke. In retirement he enjoyed singing in the First Congregational United Church of Christ’s choir, barbershop chorus, and quartet “The Sunrise Edition”, volunteering for Alpena General Hospital, and wintering in Florida. He enjoyed sailing, golfing, photography, and a large miniature car collection.

NORMAN JOHN ALEXANDER WLODARSKI

Norman John Alexander Wlodarski, 75, of Alpena, passed away on Friday, June 25, 2021, at Mid Michigan Medical Center-Alpena. He was a kind caring man that will be deeply missed. Norm was born on June 20, 1946, to the late Edward and Martha (Waltras) Wlodarski in Toledo, Ohio. Many may know Norm as the owner of Woody’s Resort which later became Woody’s Grocery on Long Rapids Rd. For over 25 years Norm made that his home and made lifelong friends and relationships with many people. Norm was a member of the Alpena Horsemen’s Club and was highly active in the 4-H Club in Alpena and spent many years supporting all the kids including his nieces and nephews through their career in the 4-H program. He spent many years running the concession stand for the 4-H as well as donating his time wherever he could. He also donated 4-H Horse Showmanship awards for many years. Norm really enjoyed traveling and going to horse shows, but what really brought him great joy was going camping in the U.P. with his sister, niece, and her husband trail riding. Norm could always be found joking around and was often identified by his laugh. Everyone knew his laugh, and it caused those around him to smile.

On Jan. 20, 1979, she married Kevin Paul LeDuc at the Grand Lake Chapel in Presque Isle.
