Over his 20-year Formula 1 career, Fernando Alonso has amassed a small fortune through his earnings both on and off the track.
He’s not among the top earners on the 2023 F1 grid, but having literally made his debut before McLaren rookie Oscar Piastri was born then he’s got plenty of money in the bank, and is the driver with the second-highest net worth right now.
And with Alonso seemingly having more years left at the top of the sport, that number’s not likely to start coming down any time soon.

After earning nearly £30 million across his two-year stint at Alpine, was the fourth highest-paid F1 driver in 2022 behind just Max Verstappen, Lewis Hamilton and Lando Norris.
However, Alonso had to take a significant pay cut to muster out from the French team and join up with Aston Martin – though still more than enough to live a life of luxury.
He’ll earn £4 million in 2023, though that could be significantly boosted by any performance bonuses written into his contract.
Aston Martin have taken the jump from midfield whipping boys to regular podium contenders in 2023 so if Alonso does have any podium, race win or points bonuses signed then he’ll be hoping to cash in over the season.
When Kimi Raikkonen returned to F1 with Lotus in 2012, his contract included a €50,000 bonus for every point he scored. However, the team were much more competitive than they’d expected ahead of the season so his 390 points earned him an additional €19.5 million – a sum that nearly bankrupted the team.
He also took a race win and seven podiums over the year, but with Lawrence Stroll‘s impossibly deep pockets funded Aston Martin then the Canadian should surely have no problem if Alonso can replicate that success.
Alonso‘s base contract puts him bang in the middle of the pack for F1 salaries, coming in joint-tenth alongside Kevin Magnussen and the man who replaced Alonso at Alpine – Pierre Gasly.
Fellow Aston Martin driver Lance Stroll earns £1.6 million.
How much is Fernando Alonso worth?
Thanks to Alonso‘s career earnings, his luxury Dubai apartment and range of exotic holiday homes, his impressive collection of race and road cars and his brand deals, only Hamilton is worth more than Alonso on the current F1 grid.
He’s reportedly worth £200 million, and it’s thought a significant portion of that comes from his Dubai home that has a rumoured value of £130 million.
Whether that’s an overstatement or not, luxury apartments there don’t come cheap and it’s not his only property either – he has several second homes including a UK base near Oxford and a house on the shore of Lake Leman in Switzerland.
Having driven almost exclusively for road car manufacturers in his F1 career, Alonso‘s garage is also eye-watering. Amongst his rumoured prize possessions is a Ferrari 458, Nissan GT-R, McLaren P1 and an Alpine A110, while he’ll surely net an Aston Martin too.
Finally, he has his own F1 (and IndyCar and WEC) cars and other racing memorabilia such as race suits, helmets and trophies, housed in the Fernando Alonso Museum close to his hometown of Oviedo, Spain.
The complex also has a karting circuit certified by the FIA to the host the highest level of international competition, and Alonso‘s clothing brand Kimoa further boosts his net worth.
