Highlights
  • Cais do Sodre - Seize the chance to immerse yourself in the lifestyle of a local by visiting their home and experiencing authentic culture and gastronomy. Your adventure will unfold in Almada, a mere 7-minute ferry journey from the heart of Lisbon. Upon arrival, Paula will greet you at the ferry terminal and guide you on a delightful 10-minute stroll to her residence through the town’s central district. Kick off your culinary experience with a welcoming beverage of Portuguese wines, sourced from a venerable winery in Alentejo, a region in the southern part of Portugal with a history spanning two centuries (Should your travels take you to the south and you wish to tour the vineyard and its prize-winning subterranean winery, feel free to ask Paula for her suggestions!). Sample a variety of starters that showcase the essence of Portuguese gastronomy, as well as Goan specialties that bear the mark of the region’s Portuguese heritage. You may have the opportunity to taste pataniscas de bacalhau, a quintessential Portuguese cod fritter, and Goan gram flour fritters, while Paula narrates the shared history of these dishes. Proceed to a communal meal that you’ll share with Paula and her elderly father, who resides with her. Conclude your dining experience with a delectable dessert and a cup of coffee or tea.

Additional Information

Experience a unique and personal Portuguese dinner at Paula’s residence in Almada. This is an ideal opportunity for anyone desiring to engage with local customs through culinary delights. Paula is a blend of the diverse cultures found in Portuguese cuisine, having stemmed from a Goan family with histories in Goa, Mozambique, and Portugal. A passion for food and cooking was instilled in Paula from her youth, and mealtimes were central to family bonding. One evening could feature traditional Portuguese fare, whereas the following evening might witness the creation of homemade Goan samosas. Paula’s mother, a culinary connoisseur, was known to frequently welcome guests to their home (Paula reminisces about times when she’d return from school to find her mother hosting the entire school faculty). Paula, a true food artisan, opens her house to you, offering a Portuguese dinner with a global touch that gives insight into the essence of Portuguese-Goan culture.

Paula owns a dog and a cat.
