Tedeschi Trucks Band wrapped up their latest residency at The Beacon Theatre on Saturday night. The third and final show of the run featured a few tributes to The Allman Brothers Band‘s long and storied “March Madness” history at the New York City venue.
The 12-piece ensemble took the stage sans Susan Tedeschi to launch the finale with Joe Cocker’s “Woman To Woman.” Alecia Chakour, Mike Mattison and Mark Rivers traded lead vocal duties until halfway through the song when Tedeschi emerged and belted out the chorus to rapturous applause. Tedeschi also shined on the run of originals “Let Me Get By,” “Playing With My Emotions,” “Take Me As I Am” and “Anyhow” that followed.

The next portion of the show was devoted to selections from Derek & The Dominos’ iconic Layla And Other Assorted Love Songs album ala top-shelf versions of “Bell Bottom Blues” and “Why Does Love Got To Be So Sad?” Mike Mattison then starred on his own original tune “Life Is Crazy.” Tedeschi Trucks Band concluded the frame with “Get What You Deserve” off the Derek Trucks Band’s Grammy-winning 2009 record Already Free.
Saturday’s second set began the way many The Allman Brothers Band shows started as the TTB blazed through Blind Willie McTell’s “Statesboro Blues.” The group then looked to 2011’s Revelator for “Don’t Let Me Slide” and 2013’s Made Up Mind for “Part Of Me.” Next, Alecia Chakour stepped center stage to lead the band through their recently debuted cover of Aretha Franklin's “It Ain’t Fair.”
A highlight of the night followed with a breathtaking rendition of “Dreams.” The Allman Brothers Band classic saw Susan Tedeschi and keyboardist Gabe Dixon trade off lead vocals. Derek Trucks delivered a fiery solo on a song he performed many times on the Beacon stage as a member of the Allman Brothers. Trucks then vacated the stage as Tedeschi fronted a medley of John Prine’s “Angel From Montgomery” and the Grateful Dead’s “Sugaree.”
The band was back at full strength for the ensuing tribute to another legendary southern rock outfit, Wet Willie, via “Keep On Smilin’.” Derek Trucks then delivered the Duane Allman-penned instrumental “Little Martha” which along with his own “Swamp Raga” served as the introduction to the beloved TTB original “Midnight In Harlem.” The 12-piece band ended the set by working “I Want More” into Blind Faith’s “Presence Of The Lord” which gave way to the run’s second “Beck’s Bolero.”
Gabe Dixon and Susan Tedeschi dueted on Leon Russell’s “A Song For You” to kick off the encore. Tedeschi Trucks Band followed with “Soul Sweet Song,” a tune from 2022’s I Am The Moon cycle of albums written in honor of the late Kofi Burbridge. The crowd-pleasing “Space Captain” concluded the show and TTB’s latest visit to The Beacon Theatre.
