- This cd actually sounds surprisingly great! I have a marantz cd player and powered JBL studio monitors. No harshness, not compressed. Perhaps a bit muddy, but that is largely consistent with other masterings of this album. Drums and guitar/bass tones come through with clarity and distinction. Many cds I’ve re-listened to lately sound harsh, compressed, and messy, but I wanted to mention this one sounds pretty darn good!
- The majority of the Discogs community does not understand pricing on promo records. No way a VG+ copy of this should be selling for $40, WAY undervalued
- Edited 10 months agoBack we go to '72 for this double LP set...Majority of it was recorded at Criteria Sound in Miami...One whole LP side was done LIVE at Filmore East...This is most of their best stuff from their heyday in the early 80's when they exploded on the music scene...You just can't say it isn't "GOOD OLD AMERICAN" rock n' roll...
- Sounds brilliant to my ears on my set up .. apart from the few bad reviews it has currently a 93% rating here . Plus the vinyl and packaging looks beautiful
- Quality control had the day off. Listen to this dull, lifeless recording if you want to hear an example of what can happen to a musical masterpiece when no one cares about the end result.
- This is an excellent record, and I wanted to make a comment in case anyone else is wondering about this. I think sides three and four are mislabeled, both on this and stock copies. I say this because mountain jam is split between two sides, and I don't think ABB envisioned the album where you would play the first three songs, then play half of mountain jam, then a few more songs, then finish mountain jam. I can't distinguish with certainty if it was originally cut up this way for auto changing record players that were common in those days, but those albums usually have sides one and four on one album and sides two and three on the other. Unless mountain jam was supposed to be the last song on the album, the "changer" explanation doesn't work, and the labels would still be out of order. I think it was just a miscommunication with the art/production department. The track listing for the CD has the complete mountain jam in the middle of the album. On a side note, the paper used for the jackets is *extremely* sensitive and it's almost impossible to find a copy free from wear or seam splits. Lastly, this is not a white label promo. Warner Bros did distribution for Capricorn during this time, and there was a period where WB did not make unique promo labels: the albums only had the pink promo sticker and maybe a hype sticker like this one has. I know of at least three other instances where this is the case for those albums as well.
- Edited 1 years agoI have compared this release to my 1972 original and my 2016 Mercury remaster. While the 2016 remaster is just a smidge flat compared to the original (but frankly does justice to it), this 2021 sounds like a bootleg in comparison. Very disappointing release, undoubtedly a CD or even mp3 rip. The high end on the vocals and hi-hats seems to be rolled off in comparison to the depth of the original. I would not spend money on this release, especially if it's your first copy. I will say, the colors pop on the records and the album cover insert are definitely the reason I haven't sold it yet.
- I wouldn't recommend this copy. Even though it was a "limited" pressing, I don't believe it sounds very good.
Going to search for another copy to compare
