Summary

  • Alice Eve's role as Carol Marcus in Star Trek into Darkness was a proud moment despite controversy.
  • The actress seamlessly portrayed Typhoid Mary in Iron Fist, enhancing the show's quality.
  • Alice Eve's versatility shines through in various roles, proving her talent across genres.

Carol Marcus in Star Trek into Darkness is just one of many great movie and television roles for British actress Alice Eve. The daughter of A Discovery of Witches' Trevor Eve and actress Sharon Maughan, Alice Eve followed her parents into the acting profession with her debut TV role in Hawking, opposite Star Trek into Darkness' Benedict Cumberbatch. Despite Alice Eve's Star Trek into Darkness controversy, the actress was proud of the role, and didn't see the controversial underwear scene as exploitative.

The Star Trek into Darkness controversy didn't restrict Alice Eve's career aspirations, as she went on to star in a wide range of film and TV projects. Alice Eve didn't return for Star Trek Beyond, which was disappointing for fans due to the importance of Carol Marcus to the story of Captain James T. Kirk (William Shatner) in the Prime Universe movies. While Alice Eve's Star Trek credentials have seen her cast in other high-profile sci-fi shows and franchises, she's never been boxed into one particular genre.

8 Mary Walker in Iron Fist (2017 - 2018)

All ten episodes of Netflix's Iron Fist season 2

Alice Eve played the villainous "Typhoid" Mary Walker in season 2 of Netflix's Marvel show, Iron Fist. It was a dual role for Eve, who seamlessly switched from the character's sinister and unpredictable Typhoid Mary persona to her wide-eyed alter-ego, Mary Walker. Alice Eve's Iron Fist character was never identified by her comics' name of Typhoid Mary, so the innocent young woman was referred to as Mary, while Walker was the name given to the brutal assassin. Alice Eve chillingly portrayed many of the comic book mercenary's best-known characteristics, lifting the weakest of Netflix's MCU shows with her performance.

7 Alice Harbinson in Starter for 10 (2006)

Released November 10, 2006 (United Kingdom)

Based on One Day author David Nicholls' debut novel, Starter for 10 follows Brian Jackson (James McAvoy) through his first year at Bristol University. Brian wins a place on Bristol's team for the BBC quiz show University Challenge, and sees it as a chance to get closer to fellow student Alice Harbinson, played by Alice Eve. Eve plays the role of Brian's clearly flawed love interest well, but the audience are really rooting for her rival, Rebecca (Rebecca Hall). It's a fun, frothy university comedy that's miles away from the romantic tragedy of Nicholls' One Day.

Starter for 10 was the second time that Alice Eve had worked with Benedict Cumberbatch before they were reunited for Star Trek into Darkness.

6 Young Agent O in Men in Black 3 (2012)

Released May 25, 2012 (United States)

Josh Brolin and Alice Eve in Men in Black 3

Alice Eve played the younger version of Emma Thompson's Agent O in the time-traveling Men in Black sequel. O would rise through the ranks of the MIB, but when Agent J (Will Smith) meets her in 1969, she's starting out as a secretary to Chief X (David Rasche). Alice Eve has a similar level of snark to Emma Thompson in the role, hinting at the great leader that the character would later become. Her easy chemistry with Josh Brolin as the younger Agent K is perfect for the secret romantic relationship the characters are supposed to be engaged in.

5 Naomi Jayne Blestow in Black Mirror

Season 3, episode 1, "Nosedive"

Alice Eve in the Black Mirror episode "Nosedive".

Alice Eve is one of many Star Trek actors who've starred in Black Mirror, appearing in season 3, episode 1, "Nosedive." Written by Rashida Jones and Michael Schur from an idea by Black Mirror creator Charlie Brooker, "Nosedive" was about a social media app that rated people out of five. The wedding of Alice Eve's character, Naomi Jayne Blestow, is seen as a perfect opportunity for Lacie Pound (Bryce Dallas Howard) to boost her score. However, in true Black Mirror style, things don't go to plan, and Alice Eve is great as the self-obsessed bride who bans her childhood friend from her wedding to protect her own score.

4 Susan Trenchard in Belgravia (2020)

All six episodes

Much like Alice Eve's Black Mirror character, Belgravia's Susan Trenchard is obsessed with her social standing. Alice Eve won praise for playing one of Belgravia's most complex characters (via Town and Country). Susan's story in Belgravia saw her become bored with her husband, embarking on an affair with a prospective Earl, and then becoming pregnant with his child. Alice Eve was drawn to the character's complexity and Susan Trenchard's modern approach to female independence in the 19th century. Downton Abbey and Belgravia creator Julian Fellowes praised Alice Eve's portrayal of Susan for lending credibility to her storyline in Belgravia.
