Fans of the X Factor will remember dynamic dinging duo Alex & Sierra, the couple who won the singing competition series’ third season in 2013. The pair was seriously goals until news hit the web in 2017 that Sierra Deaton and Alex Kinsey had officially split and went their separate ways.
“Unfortunately things change a lot in 8 years, and though we didn’t tell the public, our romantic relationship ended over a year and a half ago … But as everyone does know, we’ve been best friends forever and really tried to keep A&S going,” they wrote in a Twitter statement at the time. “We’ve arrived at a place where it feels better to branch out rather than continue making music together. This last album and tour were hard on our hearts.”
Sierra, for her part, continued working in the music industry and opened up about her next chapter during an interview with Billboard in February 2018.
“For a long time there was hope we could fix things and we’d get back together. But then it was done,” she explained at the time. “I had only done music with someone else, so it took me a while to not be so afraid of making music on my own. But I think it’s what I was always meant to be doing.”
The songstress’ debut solo single was titled “Don’t Hurt.”
“I hope people can take away the idea that sometimes it is best for a relationship to be over,” she said of the song. “If someone isn’t meant to be your best friend anymore that’s fine. Honestly, at first I wanted to give up. I thought everything was over, just in general. For my music career. I didn’t think I had any friends. There was a long period of time where I really gave up and wasn’t doing much of anything at all. It was a lot of laying in bed feeling sorry for myself. Now I’ve reached a point in my life where I absolutely believe it was all for the best and I’m the happiest I’ve been in so long.”
