I absolutely loved this movie and plan to watch it over and over again. Alex Dimitriades delivers a bravura performance as a young man torn between his family and his desires for men and women. He's trying to find out who he is in life. He would like to oblige his family wishes by marrying a woman but cannot deny his feelings for men. The performances from the entire cast are first rate but this movie belongs to Alex...who plays Ari...the tormented son. He is so handsome...you cannot take your eyes from him. In addition, his performance is so powerful, another reason to like the movie a lot. It's not a " happy " movie but it certainly paints a real story...of a real character...as to how difficult life can be when one is " different ". Highly recommended. This movie is not cheaply made...it has great, professional actors...well worth the viewing. It's a movie that will stay with you for a long, long time.

If you can get past the good looks of the star- Ari (Alex Dimitriades)- and this is not easy....he offers excellent acting and insight into the clash between old world ethnicity and the closets many such worlds have. The hypocritical world in Greece, Austrialia (where this occurs) and around the world is tragically mixed with drugs, homophobia, and sexual identity conflicts in both Ari's world and the straight world. We see many play the game and also understand Ari is not the only one who hides a secret from his family. Ana Kokkinos (director) provides some striking images and allows Ari to explore, fight and ultimately feel insignificant in the scheme of things. It is not the most upbeat movie, but does show strength and determination to be who you are in spite of such pain. The Greek culture is one of many in which ties run deep and families blindly follow and with dysnfucntionality. A good film that educates and provides emotional empowerment without the over-emphasis on sex which was not easy considering Ari.

Alex was excellent in this film and the story line was not unusual for the period. A Greek man born in Australia and his issues with his parents and sexuality in general. A very good Aussie film. Alex is one of Australia's best actors although i have seen little of him in recent times. People who are gay or bi sexual, or just interested in trying to find your way in life will enjoy this movie.

I must admit to being sadly dissapointed in this movie! I had been told a lot of good things about it by people, and read a number of reviews for it before finally purchasing it. Having watched it I must say it was not good, but not terrible. I gave it three stars just for the good acting, and because I love a good Autralian accent. lol The plot is, to say the least, lack luster, and is just as muddled and pointless as the main characters life. It was downright boring at times, and that is never good, when the viewer feels compelled to pick up the remote and fast forward. Yikes. While the main Character is attractive, he's on the cover of the box, that is not enough to carry the film, and his taste in men is apparently for the unattractive. The ending is just insane, I mean maybe I've been acclimated to happy endings by U.S. films, but this ending was neither happy, sad, nor even poignant it was just ended. I would suggest not buying this movie. Rent it then buy it, that is the safe bet.

Except for the cinematography, which is good, this is a total failure and not worth your time. I have seen 30,000 films in my life, and see them for several reasons: to feel, to laugh, to learn or all three. This is a film about a cold, selfish young man who is handsome and sexy, but without any redeeming qualities. He lives with and hates his Greek family, and hates the Australia he lives in. He has no job and seeks none. He spends his days smoking pot, snorting lines or shooting heroin, or selling drugs for spending money, and if horny, pulls strange men off the street and sucks them off (Don't get excited - this is not a porno flick... You have six minutes total of on-screen statuesque nudity, and that's it.) He is bored and boring, lazy, cynical and his only talent is using people. His uneducated parents cannot seem to motivate him, and make things worse by badgering him about getting married. He wants to go to Greece and get a job, but his parents are not amused. This is a film about a limited guy who never grows or changes. The 95 minutes are excruciatingly boring and monotonous - jangly pounded notes pass for music and are 5 times louder than the dialogue, which, 60% of the time is in Greek - without subtitles. The dialogue is so soft, you have to crank up the volume. An acquaintance of his, Sean, is a sweet, lyrically beautiful young man, and we hope he will fall in love with him and grow through this love. At film's end they finally get together, but Ari's vulgarity, brutality and lack of feeling kill it all. After watching the film - with many breaks from the boredom - I threw it in the trash. The Greeks I have known were all warm, loving and generous. This film is insulting to them.

Not something to watch if you're looking for fun or entertainment. It's a dark story about family rejection that takes itself a bit too seriously. A few scenes (especially the police scene) are so over the top that it's difficult to take the film seriously. Skip it.

J'aime beaucoup !

This is a fantastic film which follows one day in the life of a Gay Greek Australian who is having a tough time deciding what he wants in life!
On this one day, fuelled by drungs, alcohol and sex, he goes out on a destructive bing, hurting the one man who has told him he loves him, gets arrested and nearly losese the only friends he has. He tells himself that he is living but wants to remain invisable and never remembered.
It is a wonderful tale, that is sexually explicit, and shows how within a family and community, hatred still exists. The scene at the police station filled me with anger and pain as it is a harrowing event.
All in all this is a gripping tale, wonderfully acted and brilliantly brought to the screen!
Well done!

2 stars for a poor edition
