Two rising stars, Alex Orji and Will Johnson, have been keeping busy during the offseason by showcasing their impressive baseball skills. Johnson shared an Instagram story featuring the two stars exhibiting their talent.

Alex Orji, a junior quarterback for Michigan, has made strides over the past few seasons. In 2023, he rushed for 86 yards and one touchdown in six games, showing promise for the upcoming season.

With the departure of erstwhile starter Jack Tuttle, Orji is expected to compete for the starting quarterback job. He has been lauded for his leadership and demeanor, qualities crucial to the position.

Johnson, a wide receiver, made an impact as a freshman in 2022, appearing in all 14 games. He caught 31 passes for 543 yards and 5 touchdowns, establishing himself as a key contributor.

With several veteran receivers leaving, Will Johnson is poised to play a significant role in Michigan's passing attack in 2024. His performance in the recent spring game earned praise, indicating his continued development and importance to the team.

Alex Orji emerges as front-runner in Michigan Wolverines quarterback race

Michigan's spring game witnessed Orji showcasing his readiness for the starting role. Despite the absence of a definitive title, Orji exuded confidence during warm-ups.

Last season's notable plays, including a critical 20-yard run against Ohio State, earned him support from fans across ages.

"I'm just ready to help the team win, you know? Whatever it takes... as long as we score more points than the other team," Orji said

Orji's team fell short in the Maize vs. Blue game. However, the focus remained on the quarterbacks' displays, with the 20-year-old among the four contenders vying for the starting position. His dual-threat capability, especially in a potentially run-heavy offense, positions him as a leading candidate, despite noted inconsistencies in passing.

Orji excelled during the opening drive and guided an impressive 11-play march over 75 yards, resulting in a touchdown. With key players like Donovan Edwards and Morris by his side, he completed 13 of 18 passes for 103 yards. The youngster scored the lone touchdown for the Blue team, displaying his versatility.

While spring performances serve as data points for coaches, Orji's impactful showing positions him favorably as the front-runner entering fall camp.
