Alex & Sierra met on a Florida beach in 2009 and have been dating ever since. They share a passion for music and have been performing together for a while, even posting covers of themselves singing such songs as "I Knew You Were Trouble" by Taylor Swift and "If I Didn't Know Better" by the Civil Wars on YouTube. Alex & Sierra tried out for the show in New Orleans where they sang "Toxic" by Britney Spears. Their stripped-down version of the song wowed Simon Cowell and his fellow judges Demi Lovato, Kelly Rowland, and Paulina Rubio. They made it to the next round and then the live shows where they showed what they were really made of, impressing week after week with their take on such songs as "Blurred Lines" by Robin Thicke to "Best Song Ever" by One Direction to their breakthrough performance of "Say Something" by A Great Big World and Christina Aguilera. Both "Say Something" and their cover of the Sara Bareilles song "Gravity" both hit number 1 on iTunes during their time on the show. They became the first X Factor contestants to ever acheive that feat.
