Established by cousins in 2015, Suculenta Tamalería is celebrated locally for its entirely Vegan menu, but even those more accustomed to Masa wrapped around Chicken or Pork will find a lot to like about the scratch-made fare prepared in this bare-bones place. Open from 9:00am...daily in downtown Tulum, just two women in a kitchen fronting their own courtyard garden, guests arriving early are given an opportunity to watch the pair carefully fold six types of daily Tamales while Soups bubble on a stove adjacent refrigerators packed with Vegetables. Hailing from CDMX, but at Suculenta preparing Tamales Oaxaqueños featuring local Mayan ingredients, deciding on one “best” option is an undeniably daunting task, though the mix of bitter Mole and sweet Plantains juxtaposing Mushrooms and a Tamale studded with soft Lentils are pretty tough to beat. Priced at 50 pesos each, with most diners likely sated by two, be sure to ask for Salsa if spiciness iw desired, and for those seeking a sweet finish the 40 peso Loaf of Carrot Cake packs a lot of complexity and moisture despite its lack of Frosting.More

This place has to be the most authentic Mexican vegan place in Tulum! Suculenta is inexpensive, authentic eating at its finest. The kitchen is surprisingly open and inviting. All items are made to order. Some of the must-haves are the Pozole, tamales, and platanos and...frijoles dishes. The pozole is the closest you'll get to regular pozole. Same flavor different replacements! The staff is so friendly and we talked for several minutes about the food and how it's made. We were very surprised to find our bill came out to $425 pesos (around $25 dollars) and we ordered 5-6 dishes + two lattes and desserts. This is a spot you cannot miss if you're vegan and want to try authentic Mexican dishes in Tulum.More

They had 6 different vegan tamales plus soups and other options, with yummy salsas & sides. Really really delicious, with friendly staff & a pretty yard to sit in under a passion fruit tree! It came to $20 US for 4 tamales, 2 espressos, 2...fruit waters & a brownie. Really a hidden gem!More

This place is so great we ate there twice! I would have stopped by more than that, but we mistakenly stayed on beach road (which left us with overpriced food options - mostly just cauliflower - and an hour of traffic to get to town...where this gem is). Vegan food feels like a luxury on a trip, but in this space, they made it look easy and it filled me up and didn't empty my wallet. The service was simple and friendly. The food delicious. And you have to get a green juice - you won't regret it.More

Really lovely spot in Tulum. I came back a few times and tried more and more things in the menu each time. For general Tulum prices it was affordable. On my first visit I had the xcatik tamal and the beans (love this one particular)....Then we tied the pozole which as delicious ! In my mas visit I had the brownie which felt delicious and healthy at the same time. I know is a bit more expensive than a tamal on the street but it feels like the ingredients are good quality, less heavy on the stomach but equally filling. I recommend it a lot! Gracias Suculenta! We will be back!More

Suculenta is a simple, family run vegan restaurant specializing in tamales! It’s located on a quiet side street in Tulum. It became one of my favourite places to eat during my stay! The menu has a variety of differently flavoured tamales, as well as, various...drinks. It’s a small restaurant with only a few tables inside and a few in the beautiful shaded garden area behind the building. The garden area was lovely and peaceful! You can see a local woman cooking all the tamales from scratch in an open style kitchen. I visited here twice during my stay in Tulum and ordered the papadzul, mole and lentil tamales. Each one came with different toppings and sauces. All of them were so delicious, fresh and flavourful. I’ve never tasted such amazing tamales. The staff were friendly and attentive as well. Good service! Would highly recommend for incredible vegan tamales.More

Stumbled across this restaurant by chance when we ordered a takeaway after a long excursion. The food was so good that we had to visit the restaurant properly when we next had a chance! This was probably the best vegan food we had during our...stay in Tulum and is unmissable even if you're not vegan/veggie. Check out the tamales and green salsa enchiladas if you get to visit!More

Grilled mushrooms tacos are ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS!!! We also enjoy the tamales and a brownie. They have a cute little garden you can sit in outback. The Staff was very pleasant and friendly. I definitely recommend this restaurant. Can’t wait to return!!

We were staying at the beach, but came into town to try this place and it was amazing. Fresh, tasty tamales (and black bean brownies!) and the owner/staff was incredibly friendly and knowledgable about vegan food. Yum!

I was so happy to find this restaurant. I like tamales but haven't found anyplace that had a vegan offering. There are 5 different combinations of vegetables to choose from. They are hearty so one is filling with the side of plantains. The owner, Benjamin...and his wife, Lucia, were very friendly and welcoming. Gave me ideas for new vegetable dishes when I get home. Excellent value!More

Granted, he's a stupid gringo! But, Suculenta truly raised the bar for all his future vegan endeavours (all culinary endeavours, really)--the tamales were absolutely amazing. We had the frijoles and the lentejas tamalas, the lentejas one was spicy and the frijoles one was, to quote...my brother quoting Alec Baldwin (impersonating Donald Trump on SNL), "tremendous". The dessert was almost even better! Pumpkin cake and mango/banana ice cream: AMAZING. We paid 390 pesos for a filling meal for three people. Nothing but love for this place! (..just kidding! He still doesn't know what a tamale is)More

When I became vegan I thought I won't have great tamales ever again. I was wrong! In this small and cozy restaurant I got very delicious variations of tamales. Mole, rajas, lentejas, frijoles and chaya. If you are vegan and visiting Tulum, definitely check this...place out!More
