Air China is really not as bad as it is cracked up to be. I found my 4 flights -London to Beijing , Beijing to Auckland and back again, perfectly fine and adequate to get me from A to B. It was a super cheap economy ticket and for that and reading so many terrible reviews, my expectations were low. I was pleasantly surprised by the polite and helpful staff on the quickly replied to, phone line who calmed any anxiety I had about the App and Website not working . To be honest this was very stressful on the way, but on my return less so . It meant very long queues at the airport, as no one was able to check in online. I recommend arriving 3 hours ahead of your flight to be safe. The planes are clean and well maintained , although the seats are slightly thinner and less padded than other more expensive airlines. The entertainment is limited although I was lucky enough to have a choice of Barbie and Oppenheimer on one flight , this did not happen again. The screens are smallish and basic and only hand held devices are allowed for watching your own films on board. The food is good enough with basic chicken or beef with rice, delicious Chinese tea and beer or wine if you fancy. The mostly Asian staff made the atmosphere gentler than on some western flights, and they were very conscientious and caring. Some planes were newer than others, the longer flights had the best planes , which made sense. Luggage was transited all the way, so no problem with long airport waits or quick visits to Beijing, which I recommend.…
