About this Event

Howard University Gallery of Art, Chadwick A. Boseman College of Fine Arts and Howard University Graduate Film Student and Alumni founded Parallel Film Collective sponsor this special screening of digitally remastered for 4K projection of 35mm films by Afro-Cuban film pioneer Sara Gómez presented by Vulnerable Media Lab at Queen’s University, Canada. This free screening will include Iré a Santiago (1964), Atención (1972), Mi aporte (1972) and Guanabacoa: Cróicas de mi familia (1966).

The screening will be followed by discussion with Queen’s University Professor of Film and Media and Director of the Vulnerable Media Lab, Susan Lord, Ph.D. who is co-editor of The Cinema of Sara Gómez: Reframing Revolution (Indiana University Press, 2021) with Montré Aza Missouri, Ph.D. co-founder of Parallel Film Collective and Associate Professor in Film at Howard University.

This program event is in partnership with the Ralph J. Bunche International Affairs Center, Howard University Department of World Languages and Cultures and ¡Changó!: Afro-Latino and Hispanic Cultural Society at Howard University.
