Back when Adrien Brody and Elsa Pataky were still a couple, they were interviewed by Hello Magazine. During that discussion, Brody described how he and Pataky first met in 2006.
"Yeah, absolutely. It was a miracle. I was going to do the film Manolete and I wanted to work on a southern Spanish accent. So I reached out to my voice-dialect coach from The Pianist, a wonderful woman named Julie Adams. It just so happens that Elsa was also studying with her, to improve her English dialect."
"I was there at Julie’s house and Elsa walked in – she was coming in for a lesson after me." Brody continued, "The first time I saw her I was completely spellbound. I told Elsa later that I was so uncomfortable because she was so beautiful and so lovely and sweet. I became very self-conscious."
"But I remember everything." Brody continued, "I remember what she wore, and I remember she had a cute little convertible, and I was like, 'Wow! She even has a cute car!' I’m not very forward, but I knew I had to somehow stay in touch with her."
"The only thing I could think of was that she was going to be in Spain." Brody continued, "And I said, 'I’m going to be in Spain and I don’t know anybody. Maybe I could take you to lunch when you’re there.' I called her when I was in Spain and we had dinner at a little cozy restaurant."
After their first meeting and sharing that dinner, Brody and Pataky quickly became a couple and began showing up to red carpet events together. On top of showing up to public events with Pataky on his arm, Brody also enjoyed professing his love for her during interviews.
During the aforementioned Hello magazine interview, for example, Brody spoke about his relationship with Pataky like they shared a love for the ages. According to the reporter who conducted that interview, Brody took Pataky's hand in his while he said the following.
"Do you remember when we were at a party in Cannes, and a woman sitting behind us told us, 'Thank you for making me believe in love again'? We both feel really blessed to have found someone that we not only love, that we are deeply attracted to, but also who shares similar views on life. Elsa has brought so much positive energy into my life."
Back when that Hello magazine article was published, Brody and Pataky had been a couple for roughly two years. On top of that, the couple had gotten engaged a handful of months before that interview took place.
Sadly for everyone who was invested in Brody and Pataky's relationship, the couple split roughly six months after the article was published.
Since Brody and Pataky's split, neither actor has spoken about why things fell apart in public. The closest that either of them has come to talking about the split is when Brody was interviewed by the Huffington Post in 2015.
"We are all looking for a sense of home, we all have dreams and aspirations, and then life sometimes does not happen the way we expect it to. There are many blessings within all of that and there are obstacles to overcome. My life has been enriched by all these beautiful people who have been in my life."
According to reports, Pataky very quickly began dating the French actor Olivier Martinez after her relationship with Brody ended. After Brody and Martinez split two months after they were romantically linked, Pataky met Chris Hemsworth and the rest is history.

Throughout this article, there have been several quotes from the time Hello magazine interviewed Adrien Brody and Elsa Pataky. The reason that interview took place is Hello magazine published an article looking at the amazing home that Brody presented Pataky with on her birthday.
According to reports, Brody felt "adrift following his role" in the movie Brothers Bloom, and he wanted to create "a permanent place for himself". To accomplish that, Brody purchased the Stone Barn Castle, a historic dwelling in Central New York.
From the moment that Brody bought the castle, he planned to make it the home he would grow old with Pataky in. After purchasing the home for Pataky and himself, Brody was far from finished since he would quickly begin renovating the castle.
During the early stages of the renovation process, that is when Brody and Pataky were interviewed by Hello magazine. On top of that, the former couple also posed for an extensive photo shoot in which they seemed deeply connected, and they showed off the castle.
After Brody and Pataky went their separate ways, Adrien continued to renovate the castle he once shared with Elsa. In 2015, a documentary called Stone Barn Castle was released which revealed the seven years that Brody ultimately spent renovating the home he wanted to share with Pataky.
