What’s new on Netflix and what’s leaving in May 2024

Netflix has generally weathered the aftermath of the 2023 Hollywood strikes better than its streaming rivals. However, Netflix’s lineup in May looks significantly weaker than in the recent past. There’s a distinct lack of blockbuster movies from other studios. Even Netflix’s original series are slowing down this month. The most significant arrival is Bridgerton season 3, and Netflix is splitting that season into two parts, making fans wait until June to get some closure.

There are other highlights, including Jerry Seinfeld’s Unfrosted, Blood of Zeus, and the complete run of the animated spy comedy Archer. But compared to the shows and movies that Netflix had earlier in 2024, it’s really lackluster.

Netflix has invested heavily in both original action flicks and in bringing classics from other studios onto the platform. If you need a little adrenaline boost in your life, Netflix is the streaming service for you.

This month, Zack Snyder's Netflix original Rebel Moon saga continues, the new Matrix movie hits the platform, Oscar-winning genre-bending recent hit Everything Everywhere All at Once arrives, along with a whole lot more.

The best analogy for Peacock is that it's more of a rental service than a traditional streamer. Most of the new movies on Peacock only stick around for month, which means you have to make your viewing plans early if you don't want to miss your favorite films before their streaming window closes.

Fortunately, what Peacock's lineup lacks in longevity, it makes up for with a pretty diverse set of movies across all genres. Some of the highlights in May include the original Max Max, which is a good primer for Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga later this month. Horror fans can also enjoy The Cabin in the Woods and Get Out, while families and animation lovers can catch Puss in Boots: The Last Wish on May 10.
