Summary

  • Gal Gadot will apparently not return as Wonder Woman in the new DC Universe, opening the door for talented actresses to take over the role.
  • Several actresses, including Jaimie Alexander, Adrianne Palicki, Ana de Armas, and Naomi Scott, are potential replacements for Gadot.
  • The new Wonder Woman needs to have both physical prowess and dramatic ability, and actresses like Conor Leslie, Lauren Cohan, Elizabeth Debicki, Jodie Comer, Adria Arjona, and Alexandra Daddario fit the bill.

Gal Gadot will not be returning as Wonder Woman in the new DC Universe, and that opens the door for some talented actresses to take over the role. Gadot played Diana Prince in multiple DCEU movies, including two solo adventures — the beloved Wonder Woman and the highly criticized Wonder Woman 1984. Her future as Wonder Woman became uncertain with the reveal that James Gunn and Peter Safran would be rebooting the DCEU with their new DC Universe, as well as the cancelation of Wonder Woman 3.

Gadot then made some comments that teased a return as Wonder Woman in the DCU, with her seemingly working alongside Gunn and Safran on a Wonder Woman 3. That has now been debunked, as a new report reveals that the DCEU's Justice League cast will not return in Gunn's DC Universe as their characters. Aquaman actor Jason Momoa was said to be in talks to play a new DC role in the DCU, leaving Gadot's possible DC future with a new character. That means the Wonder Woman role is available for the new DC Universe, and there are some talented actresses that could replace Gadot as DC's new Wonder Woman.

10 Jaimie Alexander Can Move From The MCU To DCU

Jamie Alexander Has Appeared In Thor, Blind Spot, & Last Seen Alive

Jaimie Alexander as Lady Sif in the MCU

Jaimie Alexander has experience with superhero movies, having played Lady Sif opposite Chris Hemsworth's Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The character was severely underused, limiting how much Alexander's talents could be shown onscreen. By playing Wonder Woman in the new DCU, Alexander could show the same kind of grit and dramatic range she brought to her lead role in Blindspot, with the actress having played a character that was raised since a child to become a soldier in the series, something that relates to Diana's training with the Amazons and posterior role as Wonder Woman.

9 Adrianne Palicki Has Already Played Wonder Woman Before

Adrianne Palicki Has Appeared In The Orville, Legion, & John Wick

Adrianne Palicki as Wonder Woman

Adrianne Palicki is a special case, as she has played Wonder Woman before, albeit it did not work exactly as expected. Palicki gave life to Diana Prince in an unaired television pilot that was meant to be the first step toward Palicki leading her own Wonder Woman series.

The episode can be watched online, and it shows that Palicki would have been a great Wonder Woman, bringing great energy to the role and delivering a charming performance as Diana. While the pilot itself was not the best, Palicki's Wonder Woman was great, and having the actress take over for Gadot would be correcting one of the wrongs of DC's past.

Ana De Armas Has Appeared In Ghosted, Knives Out, & Blade Runner 2049

Ana de Armas sits on a couch and smiles in Yesterday

Ana de Armas is currently the most popular fancast for the Wonder Woman role in the new DC Universe, even prior to the confirmation that Gadot would not be returning. The actress is one of the most sought-after stars in Hollywood, providing reason enough alone for the franchise to consider casting her for one of their most integral roles.

To add to this, de Armas has shown in roles such as Paloma in Daniel Craig's final James Bond movie, No Time to Die, and Sadie Rhodes in Ghosted opposite Captain America actor Chris Evans, that she has what it takes to play an action-heavy Wonder Woman in the DCU. Ana is extremely charismatic and possesses a great acting range that would make Wonder Woman one of the DCU's fan-favorite characters.

7 Naomi Scott Could Inject Fresh Energy Into The Wonder Woman Role

Naomi Scott Has Appeared In Aladdin, Charlie's Angels, & The Martian

With her lead role as Princess Jasmine in Disney's live-action Aladdin, Naomi Scott showed that she can honor such an iconic character like Wonder Woman, injecting a new energy into Diana. Playing Kimberly, aka the Pink Ranger, in the Power Rangers movie reboot, Scott also showed that she has the necessary physicality to play the warrior Amazon in the DC Universe. At 30, Scott could easily play Wonder Woman for at least the next decade.

6 Conor Leslie Can Go From Wonder Girl To Wonder Woman

Conor Leslie Has Appeared In Titans, Graves, & The Blacklist

Donna Troy using the lasso of truth on Titans

Conor Leslie is no stranger to the Wonder Woman mythos, with the actress having given life to Donna Troy, aka Wonder Girl, on DC's Titans series. While the show did not always treat Donna as she should have been treated, Leslie excelled in the role, being part of engaging fights and showing all her charisma and dramatic chops in the role. As Titans was canceled by HBO Max, Leslie is free to go from one Amazon to another. The actress has shown with Wonder Girl that she has what it takes to play the DC Universe's Wonder Woman, and Leslie's casting would bring in a built-in fanbase to the DCU.

5 Lauren Cohan Has Demonstrated Her Dramatic Prowess In The Walking Dead

Lauren Cohan Has Appeared In The Walking Dead, Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice, & Supernatural

Lauren Cohan has cemented her dramatic ability and physical prowess by playing Maggie Rhee, née Greene, in The Walking Dead and its recent spinoff, The Walking Dead: Dead City. Maggie is a natural leader and a fighter, much like Diana, which makes Cohan a perfect fit to serve as the DC Universe's Wonder Woman. The actress also has experience with DC characters, as Cohan appeared briefly opposite her The Walking Dead partner Jeffrey Dean Morgan as Martha and Thomas Wayne, respectively, in the DCEU's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

4 Elizabeth Debicki Can Use Her Acting History For A Superhero Role

Elizabeth Debicki Has Appeared In The Crown, Tenet, & The Great Gatbsy

Elizabeth Debicki's experience playing Diana, Princess of Wales, in The Crown is a perfect fit for the direction the DC Universe is taking the Wonder Woman mythos. When revealing the DCU's slate, Gunn announced that the Paradise Lost Wonder Woman prequel series will debut before Diana returns to the big screen.

Paradise Lost was revealed to chronicle the adventures of the Amazons of Themyscira several years before Wonder Woman was born, with the show's political aspect being compared to Game of Thrones. Debicki's Wonder Woman could continue that theme, with the actress being uniquely equipped for the direction Gunn is taking the Wonder Woman corner of the DCU.

3 Jodie Comer Has The Comedy & Action Talents To Make Wonder Woman Work

Jodie Comer Has Appeared In Free Guy, Killing Eve, & The Last Duel
