Pros
The organization is rapidly growing and therefore, experiencing many changes. This offers the opportunity to continuously re-invent yourself.
Cons
The many shifting parts can sometimes feel unsteady.

Pros
Pay is pretty generous considering market rates in the philanthropic sector. A lot of enthusiastic young people. No shortage of money, obviously.
Cons
There doesn't seem to be a shared vision around investment priorities and it's not transparent how funding decisions are made. A lot of staff are doing projects off the side of their desk that nobody knows about. Leadership is filled with former Washington political operatives that have self serving priorities and little management skills to actually execute. Very nepotistic. Junior staffers don't receive the training and direction needed to execute ideas. Overall, Schmidt's chaotic approach to philanthropy hinders its ability to make meaningful impact and rubs a lot of organizations the wrong way.

Pros
- Wonderful people across the entire organization. Passionate, intelligent, helpful, and friendly. - Lots of opportunities to collaborate on projects outside of your specific role if you're interested in doing so. - Great benefits in and out of the office (social events, health & wellness benefits, professional development funds etc) - The recruiter I worked with was super helpful and provided useful feedback throughout the hiring process, especially when prepping for the final interview with the CEO.
Cons
- Hiring process is quite long as others have mentioned. Be prepared for 3-5 interviews and to complete a work sample. This can be challenging if you are currently working, and expect to experience delays when it comes to scheduling the final CEO interview. Also some of my interviews were with people who didn't work directly with the role I was interviewing for. - Not necessarily a con, but if you're not a self-starter you may find the amount of autonomy somewhat overwhelming. You have to be ready to ask questions, advocate for yourself, take advantage of opportunities presented to you, etc.

Pros
Enjoyed the recruiting process — it can take some time, but for me that helped to make a big decision about changing careers. Full of interesting, smart, and passionate people who truly care about making the world better. The scale of impact and potential is tremendous — there really aren't any workplaces quite like it. Note that this can also be overwhelming on a daily basis. When you can do almost anything to improve the world, what should you focus on and why? Depends on your role, but most people have a lot of control and choice on the things they work on everyday. You can both choose the areas you feel most strongly about, and also areas where you want to grow.
Cons
Be prepared for ambiguity — both in your role and the direction of the company. SF is growing very fast and processes are still being established. On the other hand, this means you can take an active role in shaping the company and its future.

Pros
The organization is great to work with. Some of the most intelligent, passionate, and kindest people on the planet working in everything from improving child literacy to supporting advanced scientific research in one place is something else.
Cons
It's growing fast and changing a lot. There isn't a ton of process in some places, and in others, the processes are outgrown. Great if you enjoy helping form those kinds of things, but could be stressful if you're expecting a well-buttoned-up set of how-tos and procedures. Also
